Anyone grabbed one of these? Install the software mods shown on xd-developers.com and it blows away any other tablet out there, including ipad. (If you can copy/past, the mods are easy)

It's fast with tegra 2 and android 2.2, 7 hours battery life streaming movies) front facing camera, full flash based websites, android market, (yes free angry birds on a 10" screen!) usb input (supports thumb drives and recognizes network storage), LAN port and hdmi out with docking station, bluetooth, (yes a bluetooth gps works!!) plus, when thinkflood releases android version for it's redeye mini early next year, you have a killer universal remote.

Its about time that someone just copied the apple product instead of trying to create a unique knock off based on it. Viewsonic has been in the tablet game for a while so this looks like it might be something special. Cant wait to see it in person.

They are being sold at Sears and Office Depot. I believe it's going to be $350 today and tomorrow at Sears.

Ok, to my surprise a local Office Depot is showing they have these in stock, but at the $400 mark. While its a WiFi tablet based on Android, it is only the hardware. What software will be most applicable for turning it into a robust remote control for anyone's theater?

Home Control Assistant supports Android clients with version 10.

Clients? So, this requires a HCA server to use?

Does this rom replace the tap n tap UI ?

There's a couple roms available if you want to replace tnt, including a tntlite that's pretty good. Vegan final version rom should the best when it's released. Beta 3 is available now.

Yes.

A WiFi Android tablet can't control your theater on its own unless you have IP controlled components. SOMETHING has to generate IR signals or RS-232 or...

Unless this tablet has an IR emitter? Then you are limited to line-of-sight. The HCA server lets you control remote stuff that's not in the room, useful for an equipment room.

When Thinkflood releases an android app for their red eye mini, you will have a IR emitter. It's a small unit that's plugged in the the headphone jack, then just dl the app.

Staples just pulled the ViewSonic G from their shelves, and then removed the product from their website as if it never existed. They are claiming defect.

Staples called it wrong, no hardware problems. Viewsonic outsourced a Chinese company to customize android and they did a horrid job, using old drivers not made for tetra. If you put on a custom rom like vegan, the benchmarks will double and the gtablet turns into a dream save the displays limited viewing angle. Also, according to Droid blogs, Viewsonic is releasing the source of the kernal. The tegra looks like it will be the reference CPU for honeycomb. The gtablet looks like it has some hangtime through the comming slew of crappy, overpriced, and/or crippled Droid tablets.

It's a great choice at the moment. Every three months wait and you can to better. I'm using one now and happy. Hope I can resist buying another tablet for nine months. Things will over fast over the next two years in particular.

After putting on vegan beta4 Roman THIS THING IS PRETTY SLICK.

Yeah, Apple pretty much concluded the same thing with the Intel hardware. Put OSX on it and it will run much better than Windows. :p
