Vista SPDIF - I get Dolby but not DTS

3060 Views 10 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  avc2008
I have SPDIF output enabled in Vista . In Control Panel > Sound you can test Dolby Digital and DTS. I get sound from DD but not DTS. My receiver does support DTS. When I try the DTS test the display for my Onkyo receiver goes blank.

AC3 passthrough is obviously working since Dolby works. What could be messing up the DTS passthrough?

Are you sure your motherboard or sound card is capable of DTS?
I thought that DTS capability only related to decoding. Is it needed for passthrough also? Passthrough to me implies that the digital signal is just passed on as is and isn't processed in any way.
Are you using integrated audio?do you have the drivers installed for your soundcard/onboard audio?

Have you tried looking in the drivers?/reinstalling them?

What program are you using to test DTS?how are you testing it?using a file?a dvd?switching soundtracks?
I had the same prob, in the sound options for the card there is a option on what to your receiver can accept, dts was unchecked for me.

It is integrated audio with latest drivers.

Vista has a testing function in the sound applet. Apart from that I tried ZoomPlayer, MPC and VLC.

I'm trying to play an mkv video with one DTS audio track.

That is where the test function is. When I test DTS the display for my receiver goes blank.
Good thread since I had the same problem: DD played fine via the Vista Test Tones, but DTS did not even though I had selected the DTS checkbox. In fact, when I played DTS material on a DVD, my receiver display always displayed "Dolby DD" or "Dolby DD EX." Receiver is an Onkyo TX-SR 702 (supports DTS).

I am connected via optical from mobo's onboard sound to a receiver.

Resolved the problem though... whenever I play DTS material, I have to manually put the receiver in DTS mode (or DTS-Nero:6). Never had to do that when a stand-alone DVD player fed the receiver.

I have the TX-SR 602. If I put my receiver into DTS and play the Vista test tone the display on the receiver goes blank and there is no sound.

If I use ZoomPlayer then I get DTS on the receiver but the sound is jittery.

What video player are you using?

sync,

I am using the Vista media center front end to play DVDs. Just a guess here, but did you select all the bit rates (44KHz, 96KHz, etc) on the Digital properties?

Edit: I am using the default Vista DVD audio decoder.

Hello,

have you been able to resolve the issue? I'm experiencing the same problem.
