Vizio 50" And Comcast Signal?

311 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  martyj19
Recently, bought the Visio 50 inch plasma display. Hooked up the comcast dvr/hd box to the display using a dvi to hdmi cable. Receives an excellent picture on the premium channels (HBO, Showtime, etc), a decent single on the cable channels (espn, cable news, etc) and a poor single on standard local channels (ABC,NBC, etc.). Is this normal for the signal coming from Comcast? Any other comcast users have the same experience? I don't believe it's the display since the premium ch. and dvd's are detailed and sharp. This would be a big disappointment if the cause is Comcast and I have to live with it or switch to Sat. !!!

Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated,

Pope

note: during the initial power on of the display the local channels were awful, but after about an hour or two the signal significantly improved. But, not enough to be happy about.

1. Analog cable is not so good. Analog from the cable box is even worse than direct connect.

2. Suggestions: a. Make sure your first splitter is grounded to the pipes. b. Direct connect cable to TV for analog channels.
The first comment is that Comcast isn't one entity. It has grown by acquiring many many cable systems over the years and each headend will be somewhat different depending on how it was originally put together.

The first thing to do when you have an analog signal problem is to analyze your splitters. You should minimize the number and try to get 2-output splitters in your important signal paths. (A 3-and 4-output splitter is actually two splitters in series so has twice the loss.) Another thing to do is replace any older cable with fresh runs of RG-6. After that you can have the cable company out to check your signal level and add an amplifier if needed.
