I need to replace an aging 65" Mitsubishi Rear projection set and I want to go big. I looked at the Samsung 75" but the 80" Vizio TV's just have that WOW factor in size compared to a 75". I missed last falls Costco sales on the M801D-A3. I have been patiently waiting for some sale. If anything the prices have gone up on the M801D. I assume because of slow sales on 80" TV's or lack of stock. Then Vizio announced the new M801i at CES 2014 and added a new contender. There seems to be a lot of confusion between these two sets the M801D and the M801i. Are both New for 2014? Is only the M801i New for 2014? Was the M801D upgraded to FALD for 2014 or is it a carry over from 2013. On Vizio website they have both listed at the same exact price of $3799.99. The press release for the M801i showed a MSRP of $3299? The main difference between the sets is the M801D has 3D and the M801i does not. But does the M801i have Full Array Dimming FALD? I would think that FALD would give a better picture and I can live without 3D. Some say it does and some say it does not? Please help influence my Decision.

I have been waiting for 4 months to pull the trigger on a new set. Now that Amazon and others have the M801i listed as in stock and priced at $3,567.15.

I asked the same question the other day to Vizio and this is what the told me.

The M801i-A3, M801D-A3R, M801D-A3 all have the same basic specifications. The M801i-A3 is not 3D capable, and the others are. Also, the M801D-A3 will come with 4 pairs of 3D glasses, and the M801D-A3R will come with 8 pairs.

I would say if you are like me and really don't care about the 3D get the M801i-A3.

My biggest question is, is the M801i-D3 full array led?

No. I believe you mean the M801i-A3, which is a carry-over of the 2013 model and does NOT have FALD. You will have to wait for the 2014 M801i to hit the stores if you want FALD.

The following information seems to indicate the difference is 3D vs Better Picture Quality. I would love to see these side by side to compare.

Vizio M801i-A3 vs M801d-A3 Final Summary

Vizio M801i-A3 and M801d-A3 are coming from the 2014 and 2013 Vizio’s lineup. Vizio M801i-A3 is better with 16 Active LED Zones that deliver higher contrast and black levels, while Vizio M801d-A3 is better with 3D so you can enjoy 3D entertainment that you can’t enjoy with Vizio M801i-A3 that’s not completed with 3D. So the better choice is based on the features that you want. If you want the better picture quality then Vizio M801i-A3 is better, while if you are looking for 3D feature then Vizio M801d-A3 is the better choice for you.

In the other side, Vizio M801i-A3 and M801d-A3 comes with almost the same price. So the choice is now yours, it’s not based on the price but on the feature that you want. You can choose Vizio M801i-A3 if you prefer better picture quality to 3D, while you can choose Vizio M801d-A3 if you prefer 3D to picture quality.

So the only difference is 3D, correct?
