I am helping my in-laws with their new Vizio M370VT. Its remote - probably model VUR14 - is simple (which is a Good Thing!) and I have got it talking to their Direct TV box. They will have a Sony BDP-S360 Blu-ray player arriving soon, and the goal is to get them going with *one* remote.

The stock Vizio remote has four buttons near the middle, labeled only with four different colors. The manual says they can be programmed to user-specific tasks, but doesn't say how to do that. I haven't found a reference yet.

Should I wait for the Sony and its remote, or does someone have a procedure for assigning functions to the Vizio remote's colored keys? I'm trying to keep this really simple for them, at their request. Juggling multiple remotes isn't simple. But you all already know that.

Thanks for any help!

Some vizio remotes work with the instructions in my sig. The Sony remote definitely won't work with DirecTV. If the vizio uses code 1377 for DirecTV, then 1516 is the Sony 360 code. If that works, post back and I can give you codes for every function if you are missing any. You can put any function or macro on any button (or shifted button), not only the colored ones.

Thanks for the quick reply to what's doubtless an FAQ! (I did look a little before asking, honest.)

I'll post an update when I play with the info you have offered up; the in-laws in question are 10 minutes away, and I suspect I'll do most of my tinkering when the Blu-ray player arrives.

Practically speaking, how "clever" can one get in 15 keypresses or less? I suppose that will depend in part on how clever the TV is...

Thanks again!

I've got some pretty complex macros and almost never to go over 15 steps.

If I guessed wrong about your vizio and none of my instructions work, then you may be better off just getting them a new universal remote like harmony or, my personal preference, a JP1 remote. One of my favorites, the radio shack 15-134, is only 97 cents at radio shack and can be programmed according to the instructions in my sig or from a computer if you buy a programming cable.
