I was wondering if anyone has tried a 6800 GT with all of Vlad's tweaks (AA and AF + texture sharpening, etx) running directly in DXVA with the latest NVidia codecs in Smart mode, with potentially a little extra "desktop sharpness" thrown in there against the same config but in software mode through ffdshow resize + sharpen (particularlly on a CRT FP display)?
I'm currently driving a G70 through ZP with the codecs from TT2 (waiting for the app to stabilize a little before I try switching back again) and I'm driving through NVPP and FFDshow Lancoz (can't remember the spelling, but close enough) parameter 8 to 1440x960, luma sharpen 1.2 and getting a pretty good picture but after running for a while it'll stutter a little (usually happens when I push it too close to full CPU usage). I could OC the processor (currently running stock 2.8GHZ P4) but I'd love to just be able to completely offload all of the processing onto the 6800GT.
I have the desktop at 1280x544 (2.35:1) and I can't push AA past 8x with the level of resize I'm putting in. If I go direct into DXVA with a native DVD res it should be able to handle 16x easily. This is all driving a G70 on a 10' wide screen that I've finally managed to get a decent focus on so anything I can do to get more detail (even just appparent) into the image would really help. Kind of scary that I'm blowing up ~300 lines of resolution into a 4' tall image and it's really hard to make it not appear blury to people sitting
Sorry if I rambled tooo much but at this point I just want to get the image looking as good as humanly possible given the setup I've committed to (screen and projector). I've been through 3 video cards in the past 6 months of setting up to get here (9600, 5700 Ultra, 6800GT - ahh, if the wife had any idea I'd be a dead man).
Thanks,
-Pat
