I own a Runco CL420, it's done an odd thing now a couple of times.

I'll turn it on but the bulb wont fire.

Took it in for service and of course they couldn't find anything wrong!

Right now it's on the same circuit as everything else in the room including six 50w halogens. So what I'm thinking is with everything on this circuit perhaps there's not enough voltage to fire the bulb! What do you think?

I've plugged in a volt meter to the same outlet so if it does it again I'll note the voltage, it almost seems to be when it drops below 110v it wont fire. Am I barking up the wrong tree here?

Nothing is loose, bulb has minimal time on it and again the dealer found nothing wrong.

When I finish setting up the ht room the pj will have it's own circuit so hopefully that will solve this issue if that's the case.

i have a customer who called me almost with the same issue. He has a 3 year old Sharp and he just replaced the bulb after it burst. It worked two times fine and then on the third try it wouldnt turn on. The bulb light was flashing green as its supposed to do and then turned red (not a good sign) He tried different things and couldnt get the bulb to turn on. When he calls me and tries to turn on the machine to tell me the sequence of lights, the projector turns on. Go figure. I told him to take out the bulb and put it back in again after the bulb cools off . Maybe it wasnt making contact correctly. I also told him to reset the clock even though I dont think that was the issue

I'd say it's unlikely that if your voltage is within reason, it shouldn't be an issue. AFAIK the lamps run at voltages much higher than line voltage and given the sensitivity of the lamps and the control over levels, I'd bet the lamp driver is fully regulated.

There surely is a point below which the projector won't work, but I'd guess that's closer to 100V, maybe less.

spoke to a service tech today and he said it wont fire below 90v, suggested it may be a "brown out" situation, too many items on one circuit drawing too much amperage (makes sense) so I've plugged the pj into another outlet to see if the problem persists.

If it does it's going back in for service!
