I bought a Yamaha RX-V2400 not to long ago. The volume range on my v2400 is -80dB to +16.5db. Is this correct? I read the FAQ on Yamaha's site, it said it goes from -99dB to 0dB. If anyone experienced the similar problem please let me know.

0.0dB is considered reference level.

The Z1 supported ranged from -99 to 0dB in .5 increments I believe. I'll have to check my driver code I wrote for it.

BTW: When I wrote the driver code, I discovered yamaha made a few mistakes in their communication document in terms of volume range.

I believe the new lineup of yamaha's all have their db scales shifted by ~20db's. So instead of -99 being mute, -80 is now mute. Don't be worried if you seem to be "cranking" the db level more than a prior generation of yamahas.
