Is it normal for a dvd that was rip and encoded to x246 with the 448k DD track left untouch to be quieter then the same dvd ripped as a video_ts folder? WHen I use MediaInfo on the file it shows it as being 448k AC3 for both the x264 file and the video_ts file. When playing the movie from the video_ts fodler I can sent my AVR volume to -55 and hear everything but with the x264 version I have to put it to -35 to hear anything.

Sounds like it's getting decoded differently when you play it re-encoded vs direct. Are you using the same player? Same audio decoder?

Playing both movies in Vista media center. I have x64 Vista Codec pack installed as well as AC3 filter and using FFDshow.
