Hi All: I'm using the Behringer MS40 speakers (with built-in D/A converter) with my Panasonic TC-L32X1 LCD tv.

There's a serious volume/loudness issue:

i hooked the optical from the Panny tv to the Behringer, and the Behringer right speaker to the left speaker via one single RCA (as the built in amp is in the left speaker).

PROBLEM: there's no way to change the volume via the Panasonic remote!! I changed the Panasonic tv to "turn off tv speaker" as i obviously do not want to hear from those tinny little speakers. BUT, the optical out from the tv to the Behringers appear to be at some pre-determined level!! The ONLY way for me to change the volume is to adjust the volume at the front of the right Behringer! This is very limiting!

Furthermore, even when the volume is set to its maximum, the volume level is just medium loud, not that loud at all. i would consider this to be a real issue! Is the reason for the volume to be just medium loud due to the smaller built-in amp?

do you know if there are any remedies?

Thx in advance.

the Panasonic does not have any other audio outputs, only the optical out.

BUT, right now, i'm connecting the coax from the cable box to the Panasonic, then the optical audio out from the Panny to my Behringer MS40. the volume is limited but sufficiently loud, though it would be nice to be able to go slightly louder, not much.

By Friday this week, I'll have a long HDMI to connect my cable box to the Panny tv. I wonder if the change from coax to HDMI from the cable box to the tv would change the volume at the optical audio out out?

I general any type of digital connection, i.e optical, coax or hdmi will have a fixed output level. Your other option would be to get a pre-amp with remote volume control and a DAC but that's likely to cost more than a receiver.
