Until they get a HD-DVR ( and my RSN ) this deal means nothing to me, ever since I dropped E* and went with Comcast, the HD-DVR has changed my life as far as watching HD ( and SD ) goes.

( and since you brought up prices for Voom- mine are $120.00 a month-all four networks + PBS, ESPN, Discovery, InHD 1 & 2, HBO, Starz, Showtime, Max all in HD, 2 HD-DVRs, all other SD Channels, da*n fast Broadband and landline phone, then after six months it jumps to $130 for 16 months)

And Sound & Vision is not the "leading magazine for home theater shoppers and enthusiasts", Widescreen Review is in my opinion.

Imagine how far along Voom would have been if they'd only had a HD-DVR from day one?
Is there really a point in hearing all the same reasons the same people still do not want Voom?

We all realize that there's a tremendous number of people that want an HD-DVR. What does that have to do with V*'s new offer? This is obviously information posted for those that may be considering Voom.

No DVR is assumed. Believe me, when they come out with a DVR, you'll hear about it. Nothing about the title or the post infers that there's any change in DVR status.

I'd feel the same way if everytime D* has a new deal that people want to hear about, we get 500 posts saying "unless they get TNT, I'm not interested" or E*'s deals getting shot down because of no NFL ST.

Because he is posting why it is such a good deal to get Voom, is it not ok to post why we do not think it is?

Just like other people can post why they think it is a good deal in this thread,

and as long as people don't start attacking each other.

The deal has nothing to do with a DVR. The OP just said that their offer was sweetened, not that the offer is now good enough that it offsets the need for a DVR.
It seems reasonable to post that no V* DVR is a deal-killer, or any other post about why or why not the deal should entice a new customer to Voom.

Othewise, CP, why not just lock the thread with the info contained in the first post. What other discussion would be relevant, other than, "Wow, sweet deal?"
It's just ironic that when someone posts that they cancelled D* - they get slammed by people saying "Thanks for sharing" and "We appreciate you keeping us up to date on all your decisions". Then many of the same people share with us their personal decision about why they did not choose Voom over and over again - as if that's an important enough decision that we should hear it repetitively.

CP, there is a difference, and you know it. I don't have a problem with the OP--it is good information. I don't have a problem with people saying that this is a good enough deal to consider V*, and why, or that it is not, and why.

My point is that if you don't think that there should be any discussion beyond the good info in the OP, then lock it. The fact that V* has sweetened the deal is indeed good information.

The fact that some yahoo cancelled D*, or V*, or E, or whoever, generally is not helpful information to anyone on this forum.

There's no difference in "value" between someone telling us they cancelled a service and why - and someone telling us why they will not get a service.

This thread actually started with some actual new and helpful information--the new promotion by V*, which naturally leads to discussion about whether V* is worth looking at in light of the new information.

The "I just cancelled ___" threads generally contain no new information which would change the situation or people's opinions. To me, that is the difference.
Thank for the heads up on this enhanced sign-up offer. I'm due for delivery on my HD set this weekend and have been fence sitting on whether to jump from D* to Voom, this makes it even more tempting.

I'm getting a Mits 825 with built-in DVR, but not sure if it'll record HD from the Voom box...bummer.

The last "I just canceled..." thread stated that the OP had 2 services side by side for 6 months and he selected one over the other.

IMO, that has more relevance - and is more likely to "change people's opinions" then hearing the same individual choice someone has made over and over again in every thread about Voom.

Apparently the value you're putting on opinions is based more on whether opinions are consistent to your own.

Not at all. Find a post where I bashed Voom. I don't think I can be cast with the D* booster/V* basherd. I just get bored with the same re-hashes that don't add any value to the discussion. If you think that is happening here, lock it and leave the info from the OP. If I could convince my wife to go two providers, I would add Voom in a minute. If D* did not have the ST, I would jump on Voom in a minute. The thread about cancelling D* contained, IMO, no new information, which was what provoked my sarcastic remark.

Here is that post:

Voom has dominated my HDTV since July. When NFL ST ended, I only used D* for an upstairs SDTV.

The retention rep tried to offer 6 months free HD pkg, but only with a basic SD monthly. No thanks!

I'll call Voom and get another box or two for SD. Voom content and PQ smokes D* by a wide margin.

What new information does it contain that is worthy of a thread or discussion as comparted to this one, which clearly adds new information to the debate, and in my opinion is worthy of discussion.

We'll have to just agree to disagree. I find just as much value in :

as I do:

I will still not get Voom because they still do not have a DVR.

Maybe I am not making myself clear. My point is that "I just cancelled___" is a wasted thread which advances nothing, thus my sarcasm. A thread that starts with with new VoOm information, as this one did is not a waste, and reasons why or why not V* is a viable option are reasonable things to post in such a thread. That's all.

Wow look at what I started ;)
Mnguy- this is not pointing the finger at you.

CP- As a mod I am glad you have noticed some of what is going on here. Over the last year it seems as if a loyalty to D* has become mandatory for many. You can't state anything negative about D* without getting ripped. I just don't understand this loyalty. Its obvious D* has the worst pq of most providers. Its also obvious that waiting for D* to add channels to their hd lineup is painful. Last of all its very obvious that many of these same "apologist" go into V* and E* threads to wreak havoc. I have D* and yes i complain about hd-lite ,but I don't go around to these other provider threads and cause trouble.
Not to interrupt a good catfight, but I appreciate this thread. I didn't know about the new offer and am considering Voom as a supplimental service.

I also learned that boo is paying less for more service from Comcast than I've been getting. However, I suspect his bill will go up before mine goes down ;>(
