VOOM STB info:

- Motorola is manufacturing the STB.

- Technical details:

8PSK satellite capability

8VSB DTV tuner module

MPEG 4 upgrade capable

USB 2.0

- HDTV outputs:

Component Video

DVI

Digital Audio (what kind?)

- Other outputs:

Composite, S-Video

Stereo audio

- A PVR and / or DVR will be available early next year.

Moderators Note: The original comment from VOOM regarding Firewire was "and we will build in 1394 as we go along as well." This means they'll build it into the next gen STB, as opposed to an upgrade to the existing STB.

Check out your local Sears store. They should be preparing to roll out a VOOM display; some locations will be up and running by early to mid October.

Excerpted from Multichannel News:

Rainbow DBS filed an application at the Federal Communications Commission, seeking approval to construct and launch five Ka-band satellites that would boost capacity for its planned direct-broadcast satellite venture. The application was reportedly filed as part of the company's plans to expand its presence in the DBS business.

The cable operator plans to unveil its new satellite-TV service Oct. 1.

Reports of VOOM installations at Sears stores are coming in. Apparently, most everything is in place, except the STB.

From the original source: VOOM is apparently reconsidering the upconverting policy. Not sure all this might mean, but we'll know soon enough.

Based on new info, everything is as above, with the exception of HDNet, HDNet Movies, and ESPN HD being included with the programming packages; they are MIA for now.
