Any rumours relating to when the next release from DVDO will be available?VP50?

September - October.

Another rumour is that it is going to be named VP50, not VP40. Not sure about that one, though.
madshi,

Completely different products. VP40 = VP30+Precision deinterlacing board (DL).

Are you allowed to say that? :)

That's what I read as a rumour, too. I just thought it was more speculation than fact. But you saying it now kind of confirms it as (half?) official?

Thanks!

Hehe

It does kinda explain why he started using the vp50 name a while back :).

Daniel.
I guess that might explain the price for the board after the initial introductory price ($500 vs $200). A differential of $200 wouldn't justify two different models, a VP30 vs a VP40. But it might ($200) justify a mere option. A $500 differential for different models would make sense. Then you might see the VP50 at say $500 to $1000 higher than a VP40.

I'm not sure whether they'll keep 3 different active models on sale. Well, maybe they will. Anyway, another rumour I've heard indicates that the price of the VP50 might eventually be something like 3k$. That's very unsure and vague, though.

What I'd *really* love to know is whether the VP50 will have some noise reduction built in or not. You know, ABT is working on noise reduction algorithms, too. But I've not heard any hint yet about whether or whether not this is going to be integrated into the VP50. I sure hope so, but then, if the very vague price rumour is true, the price difference between the VP50 and the next lower model might be too small for added HD support *plus* noise reduction.

I'm still waiting for Dale to comment on the noise reduction stuff. He once said in another thread that he would give us some information about it later. But it still seems to be too early for that. That might be a hint that it's not far enough developed to be part of VP50. Not sure how far development can go in 4-5 months.

Whats the precision deinterlacing board? Does it do HD (1080i) deinterlacing or only enhanced SD (480i) processing.

It does only "proper" SD deinterlacing, HD deinterlacing is still using bob. However, SD deinterlacing should be state of the art.
Proper is a misnomer. Proper I think is being used here to mean motion adaptive. But all motion adaptive is not proper at least in my book. There are indeed various levels of motion adaptive. The present top of the line Lumagen supposedly does motion adaptive of 1080i video but Lumagen plans on a more expensive model using motion adaptive but the HQV Realta version. I doubt but do not know that they will merely use the HQV for "proper" deinterlacing of 480i video using their present own for 1080i deinterlacing.

Agreed. As technology has improved, "proper" for me now includes well working motion adaptive deinterlacing with well working edge diagonal processing (I hate jaggies). It also includes well working inverse telecine for film content, of course.

Too early for information ? who's side are you on ?. Infact he spoke about it 6 months ago and they gave demo's seems the perfect time to tell us what is coming infact i think he has a duty !!.

Daniel.

PS: i do think we could use some more info on the dvd included in the upgrade that seems so close now that they can share some more info on :)
A chip demo vs full product release info are two very different things though
madshi,

hmmm... I kinda figured that's what they were doing on my own, but I don't think it's official though.
It's not over until we say it's over! It won't be the VP50 until the fat lady sings!
