I am so annoyed with the MCAC on my vsx-53... every time I run it the sound is completely different and horrible! My speakers are certified nearly flat and I want to use NO EQ. How do I turn it OFF? Oh, and before someone says "use the remote" I DO NOT HAVE A REMOTE! I just need to know where to find the settings for EQ OFF.

Can you tell I'm freaked out by this thing? Well I am! There must be a way to listen to music and movies without this insane calibration nightmare! It causes more problems than it solves. M1, M2, M3... unselectable before calibration! Why the manual says to select before calibration is beyond me! It does not work. And when reviewing the EQ it always says "M1 SYMMETRY"... always! It's unchangeable!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Thanks for any help

Your best bet would be to jump on ebay and find a replacement remote. Or if you have an iphone, there's a pretty extensive app you can download to control that unit. I have a VSX-1121, which is a very similar non-Elite version, and I know you can manually set the eq and all other calibration manually to whatever you like, or turn it all off. I'm sure you'll enjoy the receiver a lot more with some kind of remote.

There's probably a menu you can access off the front panel though.

Pure mode.

Thank you... sorry to vent above, but there is so much to figure out with this unit. I know it's a great receiver just overwhelming to learn everything.

Yeah... been reading and trying everything I can. Just can't find a simple "on off" menu item. Thanks!

This is the remote for that unit:

$43, not too bad, and it'll give you so much more control.

Thanks so much... I guess I really should get a remote. The good news is that I got this at Best Buy for only $238 (I'm almost embarrassed to admit it) but like so many things, sometimes you start thinking it's just too good to be true! Thanks for your input

p.s. open box, no power cord, no remote, no manual and no mcacc mic... but I bought a mic!

If you do a processor reset it'll go back to the factory settings. MCACC wouldn't be calibrated yet.

Interesting idea! I will try Pure Mode and then maybe a reset. Thank you!

nice find! You can google VSX-53 Manual and just download and print a copy. Pioneer has them on their website. I really liked my VSX-1121 - it's a great unit. Totally configurable, great sound, lots of power
