Does anyone know where I can purchase JVC W-VHS videocasettes? The company from whom I purchased my JVC recorder tells me they no longer have access to the tapes, and that JVC does not sell them directly to consumers. I hope they are wrong on the latter account, or that someone knows of a different source.

Well, JVC probably doesn't sell anything directly to consumers. They use dealers. And since you live in LA, finding these tapes should be easy. There are many professional video supply houses in this market to feed the studio business.

Try Video Tape Porducts in Glendale (818). They are a large tape supplier. Check the Hollywood yellow pages too. Some of these little companies even offer 24/7 service but you pay!

Also try www.tapewarehouse.com. They seem to have everything at the best prices.

wcp45,

I use TapeResources, www.taperesources.com

Good prices on Digital S tapes, cheaper & better qual than W-VHS yet compatible.

The 64 tape is just under 2 hours & 104 tape is just under 3 hours in WVHS machines. Unfortunately "just under" is not geood enough for things like Band of Brothers that generally go OVER the hour mark.

Also got the head cleaner which was highly recommended (but have not used yet).

RudolphT,

The prices on the tape-resources cite are much cheaper than the W-VHS quotes I have been getting. Thanks for the tip. I have never used a Digital-S tape. Is the quality actually better than W-VHS? Is there any quality difference between the Fuji and JVC tapes? I have a JVC machine, so I would probably lean toward the JVC tape if prices were equal, but the Fuji tapes cost substantially less.

I would do a comnparison on the same content, but I think you'll find the Fuji tapes above equal or better the JVC tapes. Given cost, and Don Landis has made this point before, WVHS copying gets expensive. These quality tapes take a little bite out of the expense.
