In an editorial titled "The Right Future for Satellite TV", Holman Jenkins bashes GM and Newscorp:

"If DirecTV were allocated to the guy who could make the best use of it, Charlie Ergen, proprietor of rival satellite service EchoStar, should have walked off with Hughes a long time ago. Instead, GM has spent the last year avoiding him in favor of negotiating with Rupert Murdoch's News Corp."

GM acquired DirecTV as a "fluke". It survived and grew despite GM. Murdoch wants a "captive" audience for his crap. Unlike Murdoch, Ergen is offering a better price and a chance for DirecTV shareholders to participate in the new company. Viewers would also benefit by the substantial increase in satellite space. The antitrust argument is bogus.
