Greetings,
I searched and read many post. I'm not sure is what i need is available. I have a Pioneer PDP-5000EX. It's a monitor and has no tuner(s). I want to be able to;

1. tune local stations
2. connect to the internet
3. play movies wireless from my home network
4. record from the tuner(s)

is there a box out there that can do all of this? I have searched and cannot find anything. Yuor help is most appreciated.

Hmm sounds like you might need something like a Tivo + streaming device like a Dune/western digital for #3 .
Tivo will give you !1,2,4 as will a Channel Master DVR+. Depends on the features, price you are looking for.
#3 , playing movies from your home network, seems to be the sticking point. Channel Master has some Internet apps currently (YouTube, Vudu and Pandora for streaming music) and are offering more of that kind of thing by mid-April. But neither Tivo or CM have apps like the Roku has such as the Plex Media Server app that can stream from your home network.

So, currently at least, to get both OTA with a DVR and home network streaming you need at least two devices, one for the OTA stuff and then something like a Roku for the streaming.

If Channel Master incorporates something like Plex it would be almost perfect.

You can stream Video from your home network to a TiVo using a program called Streambaby.
Prior Version: https://code.google.com/p/streambaby/
NEW Version: http://sourceforge.net/projects/streambaby/

You can also easily transfer video files to the TiVo using pyTiVo:

Please keep topic titles specific. See my edit.

That said, if you're good with computers, you can build an HTPC that'll so all of that and then some. Takes some skill and a lot of patience, but the end result is well worth it. We have an entire HTPC section dedicated to helping you.

My HTPC records over-the-air, cable clearQAM and DirecTV plus streams from the 'net, records those streams, rips DVDs and Blu-Ray discs, streams outbound to any other TV in the house or any mobile device anywhere and can access content recorded by the other computers in the house. Cost me about $700 and a Saturday to build. Coolest thing I've done with it is watching replays of a ball game on my phone while I'm at the same ball game. Yeah, you'd think they'd do that on the scoreboard, but not often.

And, yeah, I like to brag about the thing as many members will attest.
i am looking at getting Tablo

It'll sit back in the office by my PC and my BIG ASS four dipole antenna, and stream out to a Roku or AppleTV plugged in in the living room.

That's all well and good, but it doesn't help the OP. AIUI, he's looking for a box that'll tune and record ATSC, stream Netflix, etc, and connect to his monitor. The Tablo doesn't connect to television sets nor does it stream inbound. The OP could add a streaming box, but he seems to want a one-box solution.
Thanks all for the ideas and suggestions. Sorry about the title, will watch that. I build my on computers, so going HTPC is not a issue, just looking for something smaller than another CPU box in the room, and simple to operate, as my wife will be a user also.
You can build a small-form-factor HTPC and pick up a WMC remote for the wife.

Did the original post which I quoted list cable card as a requirement or did it say tune local stations?
