While surfing thru the 5K up forum I ran to this comment about Nec HT-1000 DLP:

"Personally when I do upgrade I am not sure that I am willing to change from NEC. They have gotten some loyalty out of me with the HT1000 and do look forward to their next projector!!"

I hope the poster didn't mind me quoting his comments.

This brings me to this question: Isn't this out of norm for a CRT owner to look forward to a higher up CRT on every year basis? It seems that once we are happy with our set up we stay loyal to the equipment not the brand name.

I think there must be some thing missing that make them wish for the upcoming models.

I was thinking to get a DLP to live next to my CRT mainly for kids and TV watching but I cannot afford wishing a new one every year.

An analogy might be as follows: If you knew they were coming out with a new model of your CRT next year that would give you the same picture quality but allow you to increase the screen size by a significant amount, would you be interested? Might there be some that would be interested if they were told that they could have precisely the same CRT picture quality with a somewhat bigger screen?

Heck we do the same thing with CRTs. Want a 9" LC instead of that 7" ES? How about when you get that G90 or 9500LC, gotta get Mike Parker Mods, etc.

I have CRT for 2 1/2 years and no I do not want to change it at all. Your comments reminded me of Curt who said that they are not happy with their size.:) Besides a new CRT costs over 10K. I can't change a DLP let alone a new CRT every year. But my point was that they just got the new units and thinking forward already!

Wireless I don't remember reading that CRTers are going to an upper model every year.

The performance of digital pjs is getting better every year and some, not all, can afford a new one every year. It's really unusual to have one over 5 years as the quality difference is dramatic. But my 1996 pj throws a better picture IMO than the LCOS/DLPs/LCDs. I've had it for 6 months and have had Terry make it better through setup, Tim mod the LVPS, and Mike P add his mods to it. We have people who have 3 or 4 CRTs. We're fanatics, hobbiest, and tweekers. We do things beyond the ken of mortal man!
