Want to run Quicktime Trailers before movie.. how do you do that?

550 Views 8 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Darkhound
I just built my HTPC, and I am wanting to set up a playlist to run multiple QT movie trailers before the main feature.

Has anyone gotten this to work in the past? Do I need to convert the QT trailers to upconvert them?

I am planning on using ZP w/ffshow, and plan to run the movie from HD.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks! :D

If you do a search for this, you should get MANY hits..Has been discussed here alot.QT format i'm not sure, but you could always just rip the trailers from your various dvds..QT just doesn't seem like a high enough rez to do this effectively.

Do a search for a program called PreMovieManager. It allows you to run trailers, trivia intros, music intros, etc. I'm not sure how it handles QT.
I was wanting to know about QT because I wanted to play the new movie trailers for movies that are about to come out. It seems like 80% of them are in QT, and typically are the ones that are in a larger format.

I have noticed pMM. I just gotta try to get it installed.
This is a trickier question because of Quicktime. Quicktime dont play nice with the other media players :)

I know of only two generic media players that claim to handle quicktime - Zoom Player (uses the ActiveX quicktime plugin, check the settings options) and WinDVD (not sure how it does it). IMO neither of them are rock-solid, but if you dont plan to pause, fast forward or rewind them it may be solid enough.

ZP has built-in trailer support. WinDVD I'm not sure of.

I *really* wish Quicktime support was solid with any generic player out there, for the same reason as you - movie trailers are primarily available in that format only.
I have setup an autoupdating database of live streaming trailers in Quicktime format from Apple's website on XLobby. Apple's site maintains approx. 900 trailers at any given point.

To play this streaming quicktime content, I use a freeware called Media Player Classic. It works beautifully. Zoom did not work at all for me.

Although I have not done it, I am pretty sure that one can setup XLobby to play certain number of trailers before launching a movie.
I use WinDVD and I'm content with it. Anyone using WinDVD to play the QT Trailers? I see in another post it's maybe possible, but this is a first for me.
Install QuickTime from Apple's website. Then install Zoom Player Pro. Then install preMovie Manager and configure it to send a playlist (including the QT trailer) to Zoom Player. Works great for me.

How does the image look? Does Zoom Player Pro process and upscale the image if you have the ffdshow filters installed?

Trying to get everything set up for this weekend. Want to showcase my system when people come over to visit.
