I've been interested in the product since the Miranda days and have been corresponding with someone there for over a year. He mentioned that they might be able to send a demo unit out for testing. Since the interest seems high, it's probably not too efficient to pass that around from person to person. I propose we do it on a regional basis. Let me be selfish and ask if anyone in the SF Bay Area is interested in hosting a demo. I'd be happy to do it but I only have a 65" ISF'ed Mits RPTV, DVD and HDTivo. On the plus side, since I work from home, people are welcome to stay all day to tweak the box--as long as they don't burn-in my screen!

Here's a recent thread on Algolith and Alan seems impressed with it.

I have no connection with the company but if the moderator thinks this is not kosher, feel free to delete it.

When the product is ready for shipping I will be offering a one time discount that will be worth every dime. I cannot say anything further until its ready to ship and we finalize the deal. Could be a month or two.

I am impressed with this box and I bought one for myself. I signed on as dealer because I was very impressed, otherwise I would not be selling it just to add something to my product line.

A few people on this forum ( well respected) will have one shortly so we should be hearing a few more opinions soon. Some reviews are coming from the major magazines also.

Sounds like an interesting product. But Alan, can't you recommend that they use 75 ohm BNCs instead of RCAs???? Every little bit counts when it comes to picture quality. A $5,000 retail video noise reducer shouldn't have RCAs.

Me, too. I want mine modded with SDI :) j/k. I'm interested in the PB.

P.S. Since the box is FPGA based, they should run a bunch of unused I/Os, preferably differential for longer distance, to a header for future expansion.

Steve,

These guys need some help with figuring out the HT market, as I think they come from the broadcasting market.

Anyway, they are definitely getting closer. The original Miranda's 4101 (I think that's the model number) was lovely, but Miranda they could just work with a good consumer scaler manufacturer today - they would be much further along in getting a popular product out there.

But the broadcasting market uses BNCs pretty much standard. And anyone spending $5k on this product wants top notch video quality which means they should use BNCs, not RCAs.

Maybe they'll read this thread and change to 75 ohm BNCs.

Yes, SDI input and DVI output mandatory! Multiple inputs for different sources, as someone wrote the preffered place for this device is after the sources, not after the scaler. But then we need 480i DVI capable scalers!

Mark, I think it's a little late to make such drastic changes. But if they run some I/Os out to a header, they can route video in/out to it later and maybe someone can make a SDI/HD-SDI daughtercard to plug in. DCP is not going to like exposed video so HDCP is probably out. Although the HDTivo HDMI is on a daughtercard. Maybe someone will make the HDCP cipher block available for FPGA and they can put that in later.

What happens if the FCC rules that the cable and SAT companies can down rez everthing that is not digital. How much functionallity of the Mosquito are we going to loose if you cannot watch High Def. Mosquito needs DVI if that happens. I might be interested in the power buy, but it would have to be the "Mother of all Power Buys"

Maybe Algolith will have a trade-in/trade-up program if/when they come out with the Digital Mosquito. Some people don't care about $5k and some do. It depends on what kind of customers they have.
