I'm looking for a basic, progressive scan DVD player that can play most, if not all, recordable formats, i.e., DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, etc.

Doesn't need to be anything high-end; I just want to be able to take disks that I record on my DVD Recorder downstairs and watch them on an upstairs player and TV. Any suggestions, reviews would be greatly appreciated.

Virtually all new players will handle DVD-R/RW and many also play DVD+RW, but some have problems with DVD+R. Sometimes it depends on the recorder and blank media. As far as I know the only players that handle DVD-RAM are Panasonics. DVDRHelp is a good site for compatability, but some still get different results, as you will see.

Sony definitely will not play DVD-RAM, though maybe he did not mean to include that format when he said "All recordable formats."
