Well I figured I'd better start my thread with some pics of my progress as you guys have helped me with all my questions....

I finished my 3rd sealed sub, dropped in a TC-2000 (unfortunately one of the Revo's has a bad voice coil, and there will be no replacements, just a refund, so I'm glad I have more drivers laying around), started running some eq, and came up with some great response with the 3 in here... Now I'm all set to unload my 2 PB12-Plus/2's and move on...

It really sounds great and it has been worth every second of labor on all these goofy boxes... Next up 2 of the Mal-X's will be here this week, and I'll drop them into their boxes and bring them up here, I have a 3rd Mal-X on the way, not sure when its shipping, but I still have to build that box. We'll see how they compare. I will worry about final finish after I complete my testing and comparisons, but I have some good ideas for the finished look.

Here are some pics....

Before and after EQ.....

And some pics in room....

Time to unload the Plus/2's.... If anyone is interested.... PM me

Good deal! I'd like to see what you come up with. What size cubes are you running the TC's in though? 20"? Gotta love that size for looks and moving around.

Thanks guys..... I'm really happy with the SQ results, the upper bass could be better, but I knew that coming in with the TC's, I'm crossing over at 80hz, I tried with 100 and 50 which is all that my Pio receiver allows...

The boxes are 21", not stuffed but they still sound great. Can't wait to see how the Mal-X's turn out in 24" boxes....

I am having some trouble with the 12v trigger to control my pro amps (Niles AC-3) , the trigger is powering up the Rotel 1095, and from there out to the SMS-1. When I try to split the trigger out of the Pioneer it gives me a 12v trigger error. When I use the output from the rotel to the Niles it won't turn them on.

I'm running 2 QSC 2502 and an EP2500.

Straight out of the Pioneer to the Niles Its good. Any suggestions would be great......

I hear yuh! The 18"s ought to be nice! Do you plan on listing your /2's over at the HTF? It's a pretty good place to sell subs. Have fun boxing them up and shipping them though.

I wish I did. Do you need to boost your signal possibly?

Warp,

Superb job, way to go. Now you should no longer be bass deprived.

For top quality drivers TC Sounds/AP is king IMO. Implemented right, you get first class sound quality and a driver that is both great looking and can take a pounding.

Arthur.... glad you stopped in....

I must admit that I love the control of the TC/AP drivers... My Studio 100's allow me to cross a bit lower if I want and are able to provide that more forward upperbass that I prefer. IMO the TC drivers are precise and controlled but lack the ability to give me that forwardness of the upperbass like the JL F112.

I seriously cant wait to get my Mal-X's to see if that driver improves upon that nature for me, they are due on the 9th. I hope they offer that same amount of control that I get from TC's.

Stevenn, I pretty much have secured local buyers for the Plus/2's, if not I have all the boxes for shipment if it comes to that. In the right room they will blow away anything that you can buy at a store for HT, for critical music they just don't cut the mustard for me thats for sure...

I hear yuh. I know what a pain it is to ship things so I thought I would harass you a little
You know I actually deviated from DIY for a few months so I could try out a couple Ultra-13s. The 13"s are very nice, better than any of the past Ultra's imo. The nice thing also is that they sold in less than 24 hours over at the HTF. That being that, DIY is more my cup of tea. It seems to me that it's catching on more and more!

Question.. Are your subs built out of the 9-10 ply birch? I think I've about had it with MDF! The project I'm on now will be my last with the MDF I think. It stinks and I'm tired of the dust!

I am lucky to have a supplier here in town that offers 13ply birch, the best of the best. I learned from others here that the extra money spent on wood is well worth it to me. Its lighter and much easier to work with then MDF and not a hazard to your health...

Yeah that's what I hear. I've called around and gotten a few prices, but never followed through. Our local HD sells the 4-5 ply cheap stuff and the 9-10 ply birch or oak. From what I see, many guys are using that now. Looks pretty void free. I count 9-10 ply not counting the veneer.

EDIT> Any chance of counting the plys on a piece of scrap and letting me know the count, not counting the veneer?

Thanks Warp. I've been doing some searching around the wood Forums and found some HD carry (ours does now) the birch ply that is very close to the Baltic. Actually some like it better, ever so slightly less void free though. Don't mean to get off the subject of your Thread, but I noticed your subs look just like the ply I see in our HD now. That and hitting my limit with the MDF.

I'd be surprised if any HD carried anything like 13-ply Baltic. Their 3/4" birch ply is junk for the most part and nothing like a true cabinet-grade birch. Try woodworking shops (Rockler, Woodcraft, etc) or specialty lumber yards. It shouldn't be too hard to get your hands on.

Thanks Nate.... I read your post, and as I have extra bracing, I may need a bit more. I still have a TC2K and TC3K laying around yet...

I was wondering about shoving some pillows in there.... Thoughts anyone...?
