Warranty - extend or not extend. What's your opinion?

I just bought a new LCD set. One year warranty. Set cost about $2300 with tax. Extended warranty would run another $350. I have 25 days left to decide. The problem I am having is with my now 45 years of experience with electronics failures on TV's, Stereo components etc. Thais being that they either tend to fail in the first 30 days, but at least under a few months, or they fail at the other end, say 7-10 years out. If this is in fact true, an extended warranty for the 1-4 year time frame, in this case at 15% of the set's value, seems way too high, but let's take a poll if the moderator agrees:

Question: At 10-15% of the set's value, are you in or out for a four year extended warranty?

I've had a few monitors go on me in the first 30 days, and returned them to never have a problem again. Only electronic device I've had an issue with was my Samsung A460 cell phone. Cable inside came loose from the display so the screen wouldn't light up. With a large known manufacturing defect they covered all phones manufactured before a certain date. I think Apple did the same thing with a few notebooks and some ipod's they sold. For the most part if a company finds out there is a definite issue with the hardware they'll most likely cover it.

I'm going to be buying a 27" Viewsonic LCD TV soon for $999 CDN, and I won't be extending any warranty. No point...Viewsonic has been great to me when shipping time on my defective monitor I bought online (they covered shipping too!).

I would say go for it for the amount you mentioned. Better safe then sorry. Thats my 2 cents. :)
I usually buy this stuff on credit card that extends manufacturer warranty for additional year.
It doesn't matter what the electronic device is, It's going to fail when it fails. So much of the wear and tear can come from the end user. For most products I wouldn't buy one. But for HD sets that cost 2-3 thousands dollars and are still in it'sinfancy stage, go with the extended warranty.

I bought one w/ my first Philips 42" from BB. After 8 motnhs I had a problem that Philips and BB wasn't able to resolve for me. I talked to BB manager and because I bought the extended warranty I was able to trade up to my current 50" TH-50PX50U. No restocking fee. Free Delivery. All I had to do was pay the "dollars" difference (not much).
