Warranty on Open Box?

2196 Views 5 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  MauiBoy
I just bought a Yamaha 863 open box yesterday and was wondering if I should have bought the extended warranty. The cost was $50 for 4 years. I already have it hooked up at home and everything seems to be fine. My thought is that if something would go wrong it would more likely be within the first year. The only extended warranties I've ever bought were for DLP and LCD HD TVs. This however is the first open box I've purchased.

Thoughts? Is the extended warranty worth it or a waste in this instance?

Did the 863 come with the Yamaha warranty? Not sure how Yamaha is for warranty guidelines but was it bought from an authorized dealer? Did you use a premuim credit card that could possibly extend the warranty? If the 863 has the factory warranty (1 year?) I would think it would suffice unless you wish to extend the warranty. Also how long would you plan on keeping the 863? If you plan on upgrading in the future and the warranty is not transferable (resale positive) then I would pass on the extended warranty.

I am not an extended warranty guy. I buy a lot of stuff and if I purchased all of warranties offered, I would have a lot less stuff. AVRs don't have a lot of moving parts and if you ventilate it well their should be NO issues after the first year.

I got it from BB and they said that it did come with the factory warranty from the date I purchased. They said one year but per another posters comment that it was two I'll have to check and see which it is.
I just purchased the same receiver from BB as an open-box. I confirmed with BB that it came with the full manufacturer's warranty. Checking online with Yamaha, that is 2 years from the date of purchase.
