Per a response I received from WBAL, "Yep our PISIP generator is currently off line. We have issues with the software , we hope to have the PISIP unit back on line today...till then please tune to 59-1"

As for the FIOS question in Harford county, check dslreports to see if there are any deployment updates for MD, doubt it's going to be anytime soon though, they are working down in PG and Howard county still as far as I know and it will be some time before they start heading north.

Refresher: Ongoing interesting recent discussions ...

a. WBAL/MPT issues - PSIP, presence

b. NFL networks tremendous HD coverage - will Comcast carry any of it?

c. Tube & CBS (OTA, and hence at least cable) transmission quality issues due to weather

d. Comcast Loudoun (and others?) issues with NBC & CableCard tuning over the weekend (mine seems OK now) - precursor to MORE HD channels?

e. Discussion about the layperson's HD disappointment article in the Post.

Carry on ...

I find it odd that the author starts out lambasting the lack of worthwhile HD programming, and (the absence of) adequate HD channels (both of which are accurate only if you stay home all day and watch HDTV!), but then segues into saying an HDTV isn't worth it right now.

Sheesh - what a wimpy chicken-out suggestion! When he could have used the platform to exhort more providers/shows/channels to go HD sooner by praising the benefits/advantages of HD to the layperson!

Oh - and Mrs. Bryant, people looking fatter on the DVD won't be solved by going to BR or HDDVD, you need to tun off the cheesy zoom/fill settings you have your TV or DVD player set to
OAR (Original Aspect Ratio) or Death!

IMHO

Hehe, so you've hijacked the thread that I've maintained for over 3 years without even giving me a heads up?

Congratulations on your 2 month anniversary of being a avsforum member.

If anyone thinks this is a bit strange, please PM Mr. Bott and let him know what you are thinking.

Ooohh - I WAS wondering about that ... seeing as I was thrilled to find your Original Post in the original thread, and found it very useful when I was researching the HD world!

Mike, perhaps it would be better form to *offer* to refresh or reformat the page, and coordinate with CycloneGT to make it 'official'?

I'd hate for your genuine enthusiasm to help improve an already good thing to be curbed, too ... so let's all keep this civil

This is why I want to stick with OTA. I should, in theory, get at least 6 stations for free.

Not to mention that there will soon be upconverting DVD players that not only record to DVD, but include HDTV tuners!

Of course!

When I saw that I could have the second post for this specific thread, I just jumped at the chance to add a list of stations there before somebody posted about something else unrelated there. I thought that the original list was somewhat difficult to understand at first, and wanted to improve on it (and I still have some ways to go). Of course CycloneGT is welcome to add in any constructive criticism to this new format.

The "news" area could be added to that post as well....

Just checked, and 11.1 and 11.2 are back.

No audio on 11.2, however...

Cool, I just got an e-mail from WBAL stating it was fixed also.

I much rather have the first post with all the information neatly laid out that we had in the previous incarnation of this thread. Can we insert it?

My one suggested addition to the table listing all the local stations would be insert a column after the orange column of digital channel number listing what the channels will be after the analog shutdown in February, 2009. The critical stations being 7 & 9 in DC and 11 & 13 in Baltimore which will change their digital broadcast back to their upper VHF channels, so people can factor that into their antenna selection.
