Watch out! New Reference DVDs are acoming...

1409 Views 24 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  Frank J Manrique
I predict that two new movies on DVD will become the next "reference"...and they are: The Incredibles and A Shark's Tale. :)

I also predict these will look as perfect as the imperfect and pesky MPEG-2 digital processing allows for. ;)

Of course, it goes without saying that indeed there will be those who will find faults with these releases no matter what.

These are my predictions; what are yours?...

I predict charges of macroblocking, counter-charges of lousy equipment and a controversy that rages for years :D :D

Sharks Tale?

How can it be considered a prediction if the DVD's already been released?

I predict that The Fifth Element Ultimate Edition will be reference quality.

See less See more
and I predict that "star wars: phantom menace" and "Pirates of the Carribean" will be the worst...
Frank,

Shark's Tale definitely is a great looking disc. It has colors I've never seen before and very clean. I'm looking forward to Incredibles as well and a much better movie than Shark's Tale.

Art
I predict an announcement for "Special Editions" of those dvds within the next twelve months......or maybe not.

A Shark's Tale and the Incredibles i predict will be offered on HD-DVD's a true reference copy ...:)
While animation can obviously be beautiful and show off your equipment, that's not my idea of reference material. Almost like cheating. Give me real people and landscapes. In other words, photography.
OK, I predict Incredibles will set a new DVD record for sales in its first week. Let's see!!
It's going to look good on any display because it's computer generated.

So it can't really be refferance quality.Like the other poster said, i would rather see more beautiful photography in films.
I predict nothing.
Jedi Master, I'm disappointed, if anyone can predict, it should be you.. ;)

Hi, Art!

Oh, boy...missed the release date of the Shark movie as is already out.

So is it a rental?

As far as my other predictions...yep..I was right... ;)

Frank,

I think yea, I'd rent it. I bought it but I have three small boys. We all watched it in the theater and they watched it again in the living room. It is fun but it's not Shrek. I saw Incredibles in the commercial theater with all three little ones and I'd watch it again for sure so I'd say unless they screw up the transfer this would surely be a buy.

I'll tell you ,The Incredibles is one BEAUTIFUL dvd!!!!!!!! As was commented once, the scenery in the jungle will BLOW you away!!!

Don't know where that typo came from..Had to fix that one.

I do agree somewhat about animation cheating since most of it now looks so good..But, hey if you want eye candy,it's no denying how good animated movies look!!Actually I tend to antipate their releases more than any other dvds...Because I know eye candy is coming usually.

Also the 5.1 track of The Incredibles is quite well done as well..Very good bass, shy of reference, but overall VERY immersive track!

Well, let me be the judge of that as I have the equipment to do it with: SVS 16-46 octet and B12-Plus/4 (nee B4-Plus) twin subbass systems, with ample wattage on tap... ;)
