Fanoog Question

Just bought the Pioneer VSX 1019AH-K, and my spouse thinks it is too much of a hassle to turn on the AVR just to watch shows. I have been going through the FAQ and manual to see if the receiver can be off and still pass through the HDMI signal from the HD DVR ... As it stands now, when I turn off the receiver the TV says there is no signal.

Thanks

I assume your tv reception is via a cable box or maybe satellite with an HDMI connection to your AVR. If so, you can still get HD picture with a separate component to component (cable or satellite box to tv component in), only of course, if those devices have component connections.

So, you have the option of watching tv with or without AVR on but you'd have to source to the proper tv input.

I forgot to mention that to get sound, you would also have to connect the analog audio cables from your Direct TV box to the analog audio inputs on your tv corresponding to the same tv input as your video component inputs.

The Pioneer does not have that feature. My Denon 790 is able to play the TV whilst the Receiver is off.

I have to second the idea of a universal remote. The Harmony One has made things so nice. Just press Watch TV and everything switches and turns on how it is supposed to, and it just works. Easy to setup as well on the computer.

Why run bulky component cables when it's a HDMI connection, unless of course the TV only has one HDMI input. I run HDMI directly to the panel and digital coax to the receiver for when I want surround sound. This also allows a separate video setting of the panel for HD TV and one for BluRay/DVD movies. Simple matter of muting the TV sound when I want the surround.

For this exact reason I have the HDMI going straight from my DirecTV box to the TV and then have the DirecTV component video and optical audio going to my Onkyo receiver.

This setup allows me to use the AV receiver and sound system and allows other people to watch TV without turning on the AV receiver when I am not there and there is less chance of someone not knowing what they are doing and screwing up my AV receivers setting.

Plug everything into your TV... that is the onlything I can think of. Problem solved.

But honestly get yourself a harmony remote...1 remote is all you need.. spouse will love it.
