I recently upgraded to windows XP. Now when I try to watch downloaded shows on DVArchive I get a "Codec" error. I'm was running WMP 9 and it didn't work...so i upgraded to WMP 10 and same issue.

I reset all of my security through IE 6.0 and Netscape 7.2 to medium or less. I did a search for any updates on WMP 10.

I can't think of anything else...any ideas?

I recommend using the VideoLAN VLC media player you can download from my sig. VLC has it's own built-in codecs so doesn't rely on any pre-installed ones in WinXP. Also, CA is built into this version when playing back downloaded mpegs or streaming directly from RTVs via DVArchive.

BTW. Be sure to turn on de-interlace filter in VLC options. Some people complain about picture quality, but with de-interlace turned on it looks very good.

I appreciate the help.

Using the VLC MP I could watch all the videos but, even while tinkering with the de-interlace filter the picture just wasn't all that good. Plus, my girlfriend is used to watching it through the WMP. I'd like to keep it the same.

As far as getting the Mpeg-2 codec. That sounds like a good idea. I just don't know how to go about getting one. Help, please.

Shaftman,

As DanV suggested, to obtain an MPEG-2 codec, you need to install a DVD player application. For example, WinDVD, PowerDVD, etc. Any of them will do. After installing the DVD player software, you'll be able to watch your RTV videos in WMP.

Hint: Most DVD players and burners come with DVD player software.

Hope that helps!
