Does anyone here know which option is best for highest sound quality.

I do know that directsound gives much better performance and no skipping, but I am not sure which sounds better.

Anyone have any statistics?

Highest sound quality? We really need ASIO support. It will bypass the stupid K-Mixer and sampling rate conversion.

Please talk to InterVideo and try to convince them. Your Audigy 2 does support ASIO so you will be able to test it.

Thank you.

Directsound for Win 2K and WinXP, wave for 98 & Me.

AFAIK, the resampling is done in hardware (the AC'97 codec specifications that most soundcard manufactures follow imply that everything should come out at 48khz which is bull if you listen to cds for instance).

The Audigy 2 resamples to 48khz only if you apply effects to the output (like tone controls & such). If you want 24/96 on Audigy 2 you should disable everything related to that. Anyway, better buy a M-Audio Revo :D

Oh, (forgot) ASIO would be useful only for Windows 2000 SP2 & prior or for Windows XP original (non SP1) where Kmixer truncated 24bit audio to 16 bit. It indeed bypasses the Kmixer, but that does not get rid of resampling. It only gives you lower latency.

At this point ASIO is required for all Windows 2000 and XP versions at any service pack level for cards with real WDM drivers to avoid corruption.

AC97 resampling to 48 Khz comes on top of kmixer corruption.

However, I expect a solution for standard WDM audio drivers real soon now.

Are you referring to DirectSound 9?

bbq, I will ask them about that.

I still have this problem with directsound in xp sp1.

Sometimes the dvd wont even play at all, and sometimes with only 2 channels.

I downloaded that patch from Microsoft but it didn't help at all.

Anything else you would like me to ask before I mail them.
