I was watching CSI and Without a Trace tonight over-the-air. I've watched it before, but tonight, the picture looked especially grainy, more so on the darker scenes. There were black 'specs' in the background. Maybe i just wasn't looking closely before. Is this just compression? I recently had my set calibrated, and I was checking my sharpness setting, which is why I was scrutinizing the pq. If this is indeed compression, is it local to WCBS? Perhaps these shows are shot like this intentionally? I've watched some CBS sitcoms, and they look better than CSI did tonight.

The CSI feed I viewed via NYC's Time Warner Cable was excellent, although several major multi-second glitches that disrupted the picture/audio occurred. So, assuming TWC is getting a fiber feed from WCBS-DT, that suggests a problem with the OTA transmitter if graininess was consistent throughout. -- John
