Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 2/13/2010 9:17:26 AM

NBC premiered a three-minute version of "We Are The World 25 For Haiti" during its coverage of the opening ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympics from Vancouver last night.

Today at 2 p.m., NBC will head a domestic and international "road block" simulcast with a seven-minute version of the song/video, aimed at providing proceeds to the non-profit We Are The World Foundation to benefit Haiti.

In the U.S., 53 networks will participate, while more than 100 other cable and broadcast networks around the globe will join in.

NBC Universal's 13 participating platforms: NBC, CNBC, MSNBC, Universal HD, Universal Sports, USA, Bravo, Chiller, Oxygen, Sleuth, SyFy, Telemundo, and The Weather Channel.

For their part, cable operators Comcast, Cox Communications, Bright House Networks and Time Warner Cable are tapping In Demand, their video on demand company, to make the video available to 33 million customers for $2.99. Available through March 14, all of the proceeds will benefit the ongoing Haitian relief effort.

This effort, well-intentioned as it was, just proves again that some originals can't be improved.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm not sure this was the forum for the same old rap nonsense and over-the-top vocal "showmanship" that seems to permeate music these days.

Vince Vaughn and Jeff Bridges too!
