We hold these truths to be self-evident (but I wrote them down anyway)

This is our collective wisdom.
  1. Using slides to 'condition' your tv does no harm (except you lose tv viewing time on your new and expensive tv).
  2. Using slides to 'condition' your tv may not make any discernible difference to the image.
  3. Some individuals value a brighter image. Some prefer darker blacks. Some people love saturated colors. Some want a 3D look.
  4. The majority of experts on AVS Forum are interested in achieving an accurate image (which means it matches standards).
  5. Out of the Panasonic box, THX is the most accurate mode.
  6. Using someone else's settings might get you an image you like better.
  7. Using someone else's settings has been proven to not be as accurate as THX out of the Panasonic box.
  8. Different sources, especially broadcast tv, have vastly different quality/looks.
  9. You will drive yourself crazy trying to judge by eye which settings (especially someone else's settings) are correct and which are incorrect.
  10. If you stare at your tv long enough you will find something about the image that you really love and/or something you really worry about.
  11. The only way to know what the correct settings is to get a pro calibration (or to do one yourself, if you are a talented amateur).
  12. Getting a calibration done, may not change or improve your obsession with 'does this look right?'
  13. Your spouse/friend/partner does not appreciate all the effort to which you are going to get a great looking image. For some strange reason the more you try to explain/involve them, the less they like it. In fact they probably did not even know you needed a new tv.
  14. Experts have consistently chosen plasmas as having the best image.
  15. Buyers of tvs have overwhelmingly chosen LCDs as being what they want.
  16. Plasmas are not completely dead yet, but all predictions are that they soon will be.
  17. OLED is the future hope for a better image. But if and when affordable and large OLEDs ever make it to market, that is the question.
  18. The bigger tv you get, in the vast majority of cases, the happier you will be.
  19. This is a great thread for specific info on Panasonics http://www.avsforum.com/t/1513205/plasma-help-guide-with-focus-on-panasonic-vt60-most-common-plasma-questions-answered-here#post_24243308
  20. There are no medical journal articles that suggest or prove that plasmas cause any physical illness. There are plenty of AVS Forum threads and posts that prove plasmas cause or attract mental illness.

Hahahahaha!! Well done OP. Had me chuckling.

These are my favs:

~~13.Your spouse/friend/partner does not appreciate all the effort to which you are going to get a great looking image. For some strange reason the more you try to explain/involve them, the less they like it. In fact they probably did not even know you needed a new tv.

And

~~20.There are no medical journal articles that suggest or prove that plasmas cause any physical illness. There are plenty of AVS Forum threads and posts that prove plasmas cause or attract mental illness.

Mostly because they are true (I speak from experience
)

Particularly 13. I wish I had a dollar for every eye roll from my wife every time I reach for the TV remote in the middle of a movie. "just wanna check one thing here..."

Yea, #20 is just as prevalent in LCD land. Might need to revise it.
