Weinstein is HDDVD exclusive isn't it?

Midway Games has partnered with the Weinstein Co. and Genius Products to create the first video game/movie hybrid Blu-ray Disc.

When the game publisher ships the limited edition "John Woo's Stranglehold Collector's Edition" for PlayStation 3 in the summer, gamers who buy the $70 disc will get a full game as well as a high-definition version of director John Woo's "Hard Boiled." That title had not previously been released on Blu-ray.

Perhaps just an exception due to the video game tie in, a case of bad reporting or a sign of things to come?

Did they explicitly say exclusive? If not their choices are always open.
Interesting. I thought that Weinstein were an HD DVD exclusive as well. Either way, that Stranglehold game with Hard Boiled is a must have for me.
Here is a good reason why a Studio like Disney might like Blu-ray's 50 gigs. Buy say a movie like Sleeping Beauty and it will have the PS3 game encoded on the disk. Pay for the game over the internet and get the key to unlock it. Saves the price of another disk and is an impulsive easy purchase.

definitely a sign of things to come.
They are not HD DVD exclusive by choice.

The only reason they publish on HD DVD is because they are too small to get replicator time for BD.

Conjecture dressed up as fact unless you can provide a link for your source.
Weinstein licensed the game to Midway for this promotion. It was Midway that decided to put it on Blu-ray, not Weinstein. People are reading way too much into this.

Big surprise .

J
So is this game coming with a separate Blu-Ray disc of the movie or is the movie only viewable from within the game (meaning the movie will not be playable in anything other than the ps3)?
So, only PS3 owners will be able to watch the movie, eh?

My prediction... at $70 USD, the version of Stranglehold that includes "Hard Boiled" on the disc will be a failure, especially if that's the only thing that makes the "limited" version special.

I'm sure Weinstein will probably set the "Hard Boiled" HD DVD release date as close as possible to the release of the Stranglehold game.

Who knows... maybe the Xbox 360 version will have a coupon for a free download of the movie.

The Collector's Edition is $10 more expensive than the standard edition. It's actually a very good tie in, since the game is intended as a sequel of the film.

Hardboiled is a classic Hong Kong action film, one of John Woo's finest, and has been very influenctial on the styling of many Hollywood blockbusters.

IMO it's a better collectors edition than most other games.

I'd assume at this stage that it would be only playable from a PS3, would be interesting if it did work in standalone as well, though it wouldn't be worth the ticket price as a movie alone, unless you're a really big Hard Boiled fan.

It would be if the game came with POTC on HDDVD.
You guys are reading too much into nothing...this was posted in a Blu-Ray section thread of the same subject:

Genius is owned 70% by The Weinstein Company now and supports both formats, although they haven't released anything on Blu-Ray yet. The Weinstein Company on the other hand is and still remains HD-DVD exclusive. Hard Boiled is not owned by The Weinstein Company it is owned by Genius. Genius has changed their names many times over the years, they started out as Fox Lorber then Winstar and now Genius. Hard Boiled's home video rights are controlled by Genius, not The Weinstein Company.

I hope this clears things up.
Thanks for clearing that up

zBuff hit the nail on the head.

That you would make this comparison, Urza, shows that you are the one being silly.

So if 360 games came on HD DVD then Disney would release POTC on HD DVD? Nice try

Thank you for prooving my point. I made a silly leap, as did the subject of this post, and those reading into it.
