Okay, it hasn't been a good two days - for PTVs in my home or electricity in general.

I wake up Wed. AM and turn on my TiVo to see the "Message" Richard told us about. No message. Check the Menu - it didn't make it's call (line busy) at like 5am - very odd for TiVo.

Check Replay - had a message from around 6am that Replay "failed to get data from the server". Par for the course for Replay's crappy network.

Figured this meant stupid Replay stayed connected from 5-6am when TiVo was trying.

I did a Net Connect w/ TiVo - everything worked just fine.

Tried one w/ Replay. Nope...REALLY slow (like hangs a minute at "Connection Established"). So...changed numbers and tried...nope... And here's a weird thing, after one 243NetConnect, subsequent tried could take up to 30 seconds to start after me hitting "Select" on the 243Zone Screen. Weird. I set it up to download REAL SLOW and hop in the shower. About half hour later it's still not done w/ channel guide data.

Frustrated, I give up.

But then I realize my DSL was getting hooked up Wed. so maybe that's interfering. So I plug in the "filter" the DSL people provide. It does nothing.

I go to work. I come home to find out...power's been out for about 3 hours, will be out for about 6 more! Then they "extended" the "accidental" outage to do some repairs that they had planned to do on Friday (which is good because I was supposed to have a 12 hour outage on Friday which they turned into a 10 hour one on Wed due to an "accident). Needless to say, no DSL and no attempts to try connecting were made Wed. night.

Thurs. morning: my TiVo's screwed up because when I lose power it loses it's time. So, Force a Call, everything's fine.

Replay? Try a Net Connect? No go. (it did try after power was restored but the phone was disconnected) Same SLOW network and same SLOW delay on 243Zones screen. Tired yet another number. Nope.

So...question #1 I need help with: Replay employes: what the hell is going on with your network? These problems are CONSTANT!!! You have no 800 number or nationwide locals...your network FREQUENTLY fails...users FREQUENTLY get odd error messages (c89000 or some odd string of numbers that mean nothing)...you purposely don't download as much data as your main competitor...you purposely don't give us as timely updates as your main competitor...and you cut of information you download anyway (descriptions...I had to add that, sorry http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif

So...what the HECK is going on???

I've decided to keep a log in Nov. stating my problems w/ Replay vs. TiVo's nightly downloads so we can see a good comparison. I'll probably add in problems w/ Replay's Zones for the fun of it too (Replay Zone teams, here's a hint: the Emmys and World Series are OVER).

Now...on to problem two. Oh, wait: one minor problem - and I think this is a "feature" of 3.0. When I do a soft reboot, the unit powers down and I have to turn it back on.

Problem two:

This morning: most of my Replay Channels show that they have nothing to record. It's weird...I can read the Channel description - it says I am set to record Simpsons and X-Files...when I do a Find Shows it FINDS SHOW that meet the criteria but NO DOTS. And here's an odder one - I have a "Days of Our Lives" Channel for 3 episodes. I have ONE episode now. I do a Find Shows? Only Thurs. episodes has dots, Friday-Wed. do not!!! Oh, and there's no dots in the Channel Guide for these shows either.

Did Replay lose it's memory w/o power so long? Do I have to reset all my recordings? Will a Net Connect (if I can ever do one) fix this?

HELP!

Don't let me forget the problem we discovered last weekend where SOME people got the World Series/Tucker updated on their channel guide whereas OTHERS (re: me) did not (even though I did have successful calls).

Oh yea, and after typing the above I did a net connect. It took over 40 minutes...the only noticable error was the channel guide only got to 69%. At the end of the 40 minutes it gave me the error "couldn't get data from server computer".

Bah!

I haven't been able to connect for 2 days, either nightly or net connect. Kept getting "the modem hung up". Finally, this morning I was able to do a successful Net Connect to get my Channel Guide up to date.

Still no 3.0.

I have been getting that error for over a month. I get a good download about 1 out of 7 times. I don't have 3.0 yet and last night during a forced connection it was finally downloading the software and when it was finishing up the modem hung up. No 3.0 yet!

I have been working with tech support on this issue but it is still not resolved.

My success rate on a 2020 with a local number (thank God) is about 3 out of seven days a week. I was successful on 11/2 at 5:00 (on the second attempt) but Replay was unsuccessful on all three days before that.

No, I have no local telephone answering thing...I even have Replay turn off my call waiting.

TiVo calls fine all the time.

Plus, Replay didn't USED to be this bad ('least in my memory)...it's gotten worse since the summer.

I'm sorry but 3 of 7 of similar that some people are describing here is just UNacceptable.

What is their plan to correct this???

RandyL712,

No, they have not said if others have had this problem. I connected for 2 months just fine, then the trouble started.

I have DSL (had it long before Replay) and have tried it w/o & with the filter, etc...

They want me to call in tonight & give them my serial number to try and force a download. 1 last attempt before it goes back.

Well, I have reason to believe my 7am EST Net Connect did make it thru to their servers even though I got a message saying it failed.

I also tried around 5pm EST and it was fast (thank God!) and gave NO error message at the end - although I watched the Channel Guide info only get to 69% and I only have data through Wed. at 6:30pm.

Also, found out DSL had nothing to do w/ my problem...it wasn't hooked up as expected http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/frown.gif

Oh, one last thing: my weird problem w/ all my Replay Channels not generating any red dots? Well, I went thru, changed each one's "Record Options" and then changed them back...that "reset" all the channels' properties.

Weird...and a pain...hope that doesn't happen again...

Well, the problems seem to be fixed mostly. I did a net connect around 10pm and my Channel Guide data expanded to late Friday (this is Thurs. night) with no errors reported.

On Friday morning my unit had successfully connected in the middle of the night and I had data thru Sat. in the Channel Guide.

I noticed that my Season Premiere Zone didn't work (I just get a screen saying it's not available) so I tried a Net Connect around 7am EST Friday. It was doing the really slow thing so I cancelled it.

And yes, I always try multiple numbers...

Well, my nightly connects seem to be better...no errors in the morning...and I have Channel Guide data.

I suspect my Zones aren't updating but whether that's Replay's going or a network error, I don't know...

A quick check of my messages shows that I fail to connect quite often, but I've never noticed it...seems that it does get a connection enough to keep everything updated (I even got 3.0). Maybe you shouldn't worry so much about it not connecting every single night.

Ron
It's not that I check...I watch Replay-recorded shows while getting ready for work. A quick "Menu" press tells me if I had an error. If I did, I do a "nightly" call when in the shower (when I can't be watching the TV, obviously).

More obsessive than most? Probably. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif

But...wich Replay refusing to give us more data in our Guides like TiVo, I find the need for updates to program for future shows (my memory's bad, I like to program *right* when I think of a show). Plus, the upcoming MyReplayTV.com will *require* a successful nightly call for it to be reliable.
