Welcoming suggestions for buy a used projector

374 Views 5 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  KennyG
While I wait to win the lottery (or get a raise at work) to buy my dream projector, I've spent time at E-bay and a few other sites and places where they sell used CRT projectors. Many are priced well (I think, not being an expert), so I may go the used route (to get started so I quite having to gripe about my home theater). Where it is so much less than a new one, what should I look for with USED projectors? ALL input appreciated.

Since nobody has answered yet I give it a try.

For DVD use something like the Barcodata and Graphic series. 800, 801 and 801s are good and cheap. Driven by HTPC they give a very good picture.

Sony 127X series should be almost the same.

They cannot fully resolve HDTV though.

The tubes most be good condition. This is very important.

Don't be fooled by the low prices. They are all high end video machines.

This is where the fun begins. Theese are actually rated as low end CRT.

So what to be looking for the keyword is "burn in" and "wear" on the tubes themselves. Use the search engine it should give some burn pictures.

Here's a good place to start:

Hope this helps.

You need someone at some point in your PJ purchase that knows the PJ your are going to buy. You have to be able to trust them too.

This site is a good source of new and used PJ's.

Buying for lowest price could be a big mistake.

The person you buy from and tube condition are very important.

The real question would be...how much do you want to spend, and what kind of picture do you expect for that price?
