Westinghouse 37w1 VGA 1080p problem

467 Views 5 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Gary McCoy
I tried to seperate Radeon Cards on the VGA port of this monitor both set to 1080p 60hz and I keep getting a signal out of range message. If I use the DVI connector it works but not the VGA. Anyone using 1080p on the VGA port with a radeon or anything else?

Disregard, it was a cable (14 years old) problem.

It's good though because it gives me a chance to use a forum sponsor. I'm going to zip on over to Monoprice and see what they got and also betterCables. It's nice that we finally get some sponsors that realize not everyone on this forum has more money than God.

I had a problem with a brand new quality VGA cable at 1080p. I cured it by snipping off the ferrites (the black crescents inside the bulges in the cable near the VGA connectors). These are filters intended to suppress radio frequency interference, but over-agressive filtering attenuates the higher frequencies used by 1080p.

Many aftermarket cables don't have ferrites to begin with. Avoid them when you purchase.

Avoid cables with ferrets or avoid cables that don't have ferrets? I think mine did have them.

Tim Huey
Avoid the ferrites.
