I purchased a refurbished Westinghouse LTV-32W3 HD 32" HDTV about 4 months ago. It had a noticeable "humming sound" through the speakers unless i would turn the backlight down one notch and back up to the highest setting. After a couple of weeks that problem seemed to take care of itself as long as i left the backlight setting on high. Well....once i got HD service the picture needed adjusting and i stupidly turned the backlight down a bit. After about an hour these red speckles started showing up. Now every time i turn the TV on and it warms up after about 20 mins i get the red and sometimes light green speckles for a couple mins. I was thinking backlight inverter? Some pics are attached.

Inverters simply light the backlighting on/off. User menu controls to "turn down backlighting" do not change voltage levels into/out of the inverter and the actual brightness of the backlights never changes. When an inverter or backlight goes out, you may see patches of the picture appear permanently dark(er) or more likely the whole picture goes black.

Your pictures look like video problem which can be Main board or Tcon (which means lcd panel). Do you have warranty or are you looking for diy solution?

Well i opened the TV and found alot of leaking components on the power supply. There is white potting around and on top of 3 or 4 capacitors and other parts. The only place i could find a replacement power supply is "Shopjimmy.com" but they are out of stock right now. Thanks guys.

What is "white potting"? Post pictures, because it could just be "glue" used to hold parts during board assembly.

If the capacitors leak brown stuff, bulged, or have splits on the top, they have gone bad. I have had that happen in LCD PC monitors. I got a board for a Samsung from Shop Jimmy. They must part out damaged monitors. I had to check a few times, and got lucky..

The white stuff on the mainboard and power supply is glue....sorry. I finally found a solution to the red speckles and green blobs though. I removed the tape holding the "lvds" cable to the backlight housing and also removed the piece of foil shielding tape on the lvds connector attached to the lcd control board. Can't believe it worked but it did.

Could you possibly take a picture or pictures of what you did? I would be forever grateful. I do not have any Sams Fotofax [if there is one] or any service information with a picture of the areas you talk about......

Thanks
