I would be very interested to learn from other 808 or 808s owners what contrast and brightness settings you're using. It would also help to know the width of the image you're making.

It varies depening on the source, but brightness is 35-40 and contrast is 45-50.

Thanks, Jim. To get a pleasing picture I'm running the contrast and brightness at 55 - 60. And that's with a 2.8 gain screen.


I asked because mine has 24,000 hours on the chassis. The CRT's have no sign of visible phosphor wear or burn. But if I'm having to run it that much hotter then I suppose that means my tubes are not spring chickens.

I remember someone asking this before (I think at the old TAW forum).

It seems that most answers that came back was brightness at around 40-45 and contrast around 70.

I'm running my BD808s (around 1000 hours now) at Brightness 43 contrast 72.

One last question please. With 24k hours on mine would it be smarter to leave it powered on all the time? Or cycle it on and off as I use it?

I don't know which is better for the projector. I've just used the regular standby mode since I got mine (powered down from the remote, not flipping the on/off switch on the back of the projector.)

I read somewhere that Barco 80x's hold their convergence better if left in standby mode.
