Also, take that C-net list with a grain of salt, it doesn't list TVs they did not review, which includes the a850.

The A850 is quite similar in picture quality to the A750 and A650, both of which CNET reviewed (and liked).

So it's probably fair to say that they dig the A850/A860 too.

Everyone needs to see the latest Mitsubishi Diamond Series LT-52246 , hard to find a review, but I own it and picked it over a XBR6. Definitely one of the best LCDs on the market.

The only better I have seen are the LED backlight lcds and the Pioneer Elite Kuros.

Agreed there, but it still doesn't change the list. You could slot it in where the 750 or 650 is, but it's not a true list.

My list puts the XBR8/950 at the top, followed by the 850/750 and XBR6.

Meh, don't care. Sammy 650/750/850 Series are all about the same. 850's thinner. Yay.

LCD Forum =)

Personally, I love the kuros but they feel so dim to me compared to LCDs. I like the LCD look, which is why I went that route (a850 - couldn't justify the 950 at the time, maybe next set). IMO though, making a list without price constraints isn't reflective of the real world. Not everyone is going to buy the Elite kuro at however much they cost, or the 55" 950, or the XBR8 at their big costs. Real world list I think the 850/750 and the XBR6 are at the top of the LCD world (for now) and the Panasonic plasmas are at the top of the Plasma world. Without cost restraints? XBR8 and Elite Kuro.

Charlie didn't specify a budget, he just asked what the top sets were.

But I would agree with all of your picks. That is pretty much the way it stacks up.

Asking about a Plasma in an LCD forum?!?! Just kidding...

Me Personally, I would rank the Kuro #1, but it just depends on what type of picture you like.

1. Kuro

2. XBR8/Samsung 950

3. Samsung 850/750/650

4. Panasonic 800 series

are you putting the samsung over the sony xbr?

For me, the Sammy 650/750/850 are about equal to the XBR6. Was very impressed by all of them.

Also... the better LG sets deserve more love than they're getting. Their best is almost up there with Sony and Samsung.

Toshiba and Sharp are good too, not all that far behind (but just enough so that I wouldn't want one).

I like Panny plasmas too, but they are a tiny bit dim and a tiny bit soft. Their bang-for-the-buck is hard to beat tho'.
