A friend of mine just got a new Samsung DLP RPTV and when he puts a SD channel on the artifacts are pretty severe. On a Direct TV blue screen that has their emblem and "Direct" in large white letters there are what looks like worms crawling all around the letters. What is this? Is there a way to fix it? Firmware update/adjustment, etc? I can't remember if it was on the s-video input from his Direct Tivo or on the SD channel on his T160 HD receiver, or both. This "worm" problem carries over to any SD channel and makes the SD look like crap in my opinion.

That's an artifact of MPEG compression. No way to fix it, you can reduce it possibly by turning down the sharpness control, and maybe disabling the DNIe feature.

It's not nearly as noticeable on a smaller TV, or one that's not so razor sharp to begin with. SD channels are never going to look great on this set (or any HD set IMHO), but with some adjustments of the user menu you can at least get them tolerable.
