I have seen more then a few "picture settings" threads for Samsung DLPs. The HLNs show some ISF results and the HLP owners are listing DVE results.

HLP Owners that have had professional calibration performed SHARE YOUR RESULTS!!

We don't need to know the contrast, brightness, color and temp settings. That stuff is pretty easy. Where's the beef?

Cinema mode is not the best picture setting. It turns everything yellow which is not close to 6500k.

I have done some SM tweaking, but I could use some guidance.

Anyone out there?

OK,

It's been a day and not one reply? Come on AVS people get on the stick. Either

A. All people with HLP DLP displays are not getting them calibrated.

B. People are getting their sets calibrated and do not know how to access the service menu.

C. People are getting their displays calibrated and are unwilling or too lazy to share the results.

I'm thinking "C" .

Prove me wrong.

Please don't reply saying all sets vary. Their are some basic service menu setting we could all benefit from.

I recently purchased a HLP5663 and have run it through a basic calibration with the Sound & Vision DVD. It really didn't change the PQ that much. I more recently found out how to enter the service menu and have also had my Light Engine replaced (after the dreaded "three lights").

So I am in the same boat as you - I would like to hear the suggestions people have. I need to set aside some time to do a more extensive calibration. I can't offer a lot of input as far as the settings go, but I am waiting to hear from others.

Anyone want have the Service Manual for the HLP-xx63 in PDF form and want to share? I'd like to know as much as possible before I start messing with the settings....

I don't know of anyone who has had a professional ISF certified calibration done that has shared the SM settings here.

Some of the HLM owners were serious amateur calibrators using some good equipment. They shared their settings from the early HLM sets.

I'm not interested in the discussion of the moral issues involved in sharing a professional's work. I'm just pointing out that it hasn't happened to my knowledge.

I haven't followed the HLN tweak threads for a few months.

I've been serching for calabration info on the HLP's for a couple of months now. Haven't found much. I have procurred a service manual, but that's not very helpful, at least not for calibration or info on the sm.

What I've been able to piece together so far is an understanding of the electronics in the HLPs and which of the various sm's affect which ICs. You'll find this info in the attached .zip. I've also included the sm .xls that zlindsay328 put together and I slightly modified to include some parameters my set has but his didn't (newer sw I guess).

My goal is to figure out how to do all this myself, it's a geek kinda thing
. But to date, all I've done is tweaked with DVE; to begin with I had really bad green push, but I've found a combination that really like, i'm certain it's no where near d65k, but I like it. I've dabbled in the sm, but haven't really changed anything yet. Once I figure it all out and find the time, I'd like to get more serious about it.

If you'd like to DYI, I'd suggest searching on "kenhdtv", he's been very helpful to me and has this niffty homemade calibrator.

Best of luck,

Hyram

Gamma set to "0" really help the blocky-blacks problem. Now I get a smooth transition from dark to light.

I noticed that every time you enter the service mode the TV switches to "warm1" . warm1 adds too much red on the darker colors. It really messes up the skin tones. Normal is the setting that looks closer to 6500k.

I had to make adjustments based on guesses of what colors I thought were present in the "Normal" settings. It looks better now when I show a greyscale pattern through the DVI/D-VHS player. There is still a tiny bit of green or blue in it, but the improvements are dramatic in overall picture quality and color balance.
