I keep seeing post after post on speaker designs/questions, as I should since this is the forum for it, but how did you present your idea(s) to your significant other? What kind of compromises did you have to make to satisfy her?

My GF, is pretty much game for anything so long as it blends in with the decore and doesn't cost a whole lot of money. It also can't pose any health risks to her son, IOW, the speakers can't fall on him. Pretty simple and respectible.

One of my good friends wants nice 7.1 setup, but is limted to something like a bose acoustimass system because his wife doesn't want to see anything or put holes in the walls.
Poor guy.

Take her to home depot, go to the HVAC grilles, ask her what style she likes, then send her into paint or lighting dept, while she is gone pick the size you need and the style she wants. Then again while she is away install IB subwoofer in ceiling, basement, or crawlspace, cover opening with grille, tell her she made a good choice on the style of the grille when she spots it.

N SO, no WAF...but I am only 20. I plan on having a dedicated media room/HT whenever I build/own a house so if I do have a wife then I'll let her control the decorating/etc in most of the house EXCEPT the dedicated room.

That sounds in theory, we shall see.

Ive said it before, but I'll say it again, it seems like folks putting their HTs in the den/living room is the primary cause of WAF related issues in the first place.

We have an understanding. I go to work,I come right home,I pay all the bills first, I touch only one set of hooters (hers), I get to build 700lb. subwoofers.

Seems to work for us.

Right nowdiscussing sub boxes. Looks like I can do 2-9 cubic foot enclosures with the condition of them being used as speaker stands somehow. Don't know how to do that without vibrating the speakers off of them.

MY wife of 30 years said, when I told her that I was tired of building little speakers, and that I wanted something that would sound like a real performance, and that I was building a 7 foot line array( http://pub48.bravenet.com/photocente...31&album=48032 ): "You're not putting anything like that in my living room!!!!!"

So i said, "Alright, OK if I put it into the basement?" She said OK. Si I started separating a new 12 x 18 foot foot in the basement for music listening. Suddenly she starts saving for a 50 inch HD wide screen TV, and is perfectly OK with a huge speaker system to go along with her giant TV for watching her many movies. WIN WIN. She helps me decorate the room, and I have full control over the speaker system. The rest of the house belongs to her.

BTW, the kids, ages 24 and 27, are out of the house and living far away. I only have to contend with a dog and two cats and her.

Side firing 2-DAYTON RSS315HF-4 12" shoud do the trick, one on each side of the box.

Looks like your friend needs his own room, or a new wife.

He should take her to a home and garden show, lots of HT related sales persons there, that ought to soften her up a l'il bit.

Then again he could take her to the home and garden show, AND LEAVE HER THERE.

The short answer is:

A HT is THE place to relax and unwind WITH your significant other. If your friend needs a HT to ESCAPE from the wife, it's time to give the wench the boot.

Yeah, I even designed a small sub for him (2ft^3 external), but that's going to be too big apparently. IB is the only way to go, but she's not wanting to do minor surgery on the house...yet

Nothing like some old school Prodigy, Aphex Twin and White Zombie at 110db's to keep you going into the wee hours of the morning...and nothing ticks off neighbors more.

WAF waf woo woof woof ...WTF

WAF is for prisoners, when you can count over 200 drivers in your speakers/subs at home we will talk lack of WAF. When you can say you have over 4000lbs of audio gear home you are free from WAF.

I'm lucky...as of right now I live with 2 other guys (one year left of college...thank God) and if anything they encourage more speakers/sound because they benefit from them as much as I do. I have talked to my girlfriend though (whom I plan on marrying in the near future) and as of right now she said that I can do whatever I want as long as it sounds good.

So all in all, I shouldn't have a problem once moving out, but then again, I know (and I'm assuming many guys here know) how much women like to change their mind...so we'll see.
