Because it isn't 1.78:1? I don't think anyone really understands the question. I know I don't so I'll attempt to answer what I think you are asking. 1.78:1 will fill the screen. Anything Wider or Taller will not fit the screen completely. Wider movies/test pattern aspect ratios will letterbox the top and the bottom. Taller movies/test pattern aspect ratios will Pillarbox on the sides. 1.66:1 is a tricky one anyhow. A lot of the time, they don't anamorphically enhance it so it ends up a 4:3 square with letterboxing on the top and bottom. If the title in question is 1.66:1 and is anamorphically enhanced, you will have small unused pillars on the right and left but the image will fill the screen without using a Zoom mode button.
