I'm doing this survey to get an idea of which brands are the most reliable. Most of the threads I see for people with TV problems/defects are for their Sony - this could be because most people have Sony TVs...

Also if you could please let me know how long you've owned your TV before it died (or if it still works).

I have the 1997 SONY model KV-32S22 - dead :(

No particular reason. Probably because I'm not considering purchasing that brand...but neither would I consider some of the other brands I listed. (I just decided to make a list of 10, then filled in the blanks.)

I just tried to add Samsung, but I was prompted that only moderators could edit it...that's strange

20" Sony (a la 1990) in the office......going on 15 yrs and still looking great.

20" Philips (2004) in the bedroom..... believe it or not the Sony has it beat.

20" Toshiba (2002) guest bedroom.... excellent pic, but cable input broke :(

30" Loewe Aconda ( 2003) in the family room Best Pic by far!

30" Loewe Articos ( 2004) on the way.......... will replace the Aconda.

Now just wondering where to put the Aconda, perhaps in the bedroom or put it up for sale.

Interesting poll, and results are pretty much as I expected. I've got a Toshiba (34HF83).

Samsung HL-P5685W got a deal I couldn't refuse, only $2069.00, I was after this DLP since it came out, and got it under half of its original price. The picture is amazing on HD, my window is in front of the TV screen in at around 25 ft (it's a large room) and I have no problem turning that beast on, in the morning, with a full blast of sun, and I still get an amazing contrast. I dont recomend it, thougth, to those that are gonna sit closer than 10 ft from it, specially, if it's not HD broadcast. Lower quality broadcast, still looks great, as long as you sit at the proper distance from the screen, well, after all, that's what big screens are for.

20" Sony (1996 or 1997) still looks great and works good but I need to consider getting a new remote for it.

14" Toshiba (3 or 4 years old) nice television for the bedroom, the only defect I see with it is a noticeable geometry problem with news tickers, otherwise it looks good and works fine.

30" Toshiba widescreen HDTV ( 1 month old) I love it for DVD's. Analog cable looks like crap as you'd expect but I still get an overall decent picture from it. This television does have a slight geometry problem.

This one was made by Orion in Thailand, so that's why the cable input broke.

I'm sorry, I meant to say a Phillips t.v. not a Toshiba. Man, I hate to bash on Toshiba for no reason. I loved my SD-4800 until recently and the wife and I have a Toshiba 3960 hooked up to the KV27FS120 in the bedroom via component. Not bad PQ; jaggies are evident though. Maybe someday soon I'll be able to purchase another Panasonic S77 (awesome DVD player; I have it running in 1080i via HDMI on the KV34HS420) or an Oppo.
