I am finalising an extension in my house and the builders are looking for drawings with details of cables to be run. just wondering what are the name/types of cables that can be speced on plans. appart from cat5.
The smartest move is to have a big (2 inch+) electrical conduit run in the walls from where your display will be to where your equipment stack will be. Then you can pull HDMI cables etc at a later date and not worry about what happens to an unprotected cable and cable ends that are hanging around during the construction process.
Depending on your display choice a HDMI cable may be all you need. It also depends on your receivers capabilities to switch various signals and what other gear you might want. For instance a Wii needs a component or composite cable but if your receiver will convert that signal to HDMI you can avoid running an extra cable.
You also need to determine if you need cable/satellite connections in the extension and pre-plan those wire runs.
