after i took out my internal 20 gb hdd a couple week ago from my ps3...i'm still comptemplating what i should do with it? i'm thinking if i should spend the extra $15 enclosing case and connect to my ps3. but what can i save to my external hdd? can i save game demo, downloaded movie trailer, full movie or what? i'm wondering if spending $15 is worth it or not.


ps i dont want any drama from my groupies plz.

I did that very thing -installed the old HD into an external case. As long as it's formatted as FAT32, the PS3 will see it just fine -you can save anything to it that you can save onto the internal HD.

are you sure? i remember reading somewhere u can't save game demo, ps2 or ps1 save game, full downloaded movie etc. onto the external hdd.

You cant save Games or Demos or any video content downloaded (paid for) from the PSN store to the external NOT to play off of. You can however back everything up to an external. Semantics. yes. Yes you can "save" everything to an external via the backup util but you will not be able to access any of that content unless you run the restore tool. Bottom line the internal HD is the only place you can save Games Demos and DL video (paid for), AND play it back as well.

what about game demo or dl video not paid for? if not, what is the point of external hdd then?

Any video that the PS3 would recognize normally (MP4s, AVIs, etc) that you just pulled off the web or whatever (basically anything not DRM-ed) will play fine. You can access photos and music off an external drive no problem as well.


For me, the point is that I can have about 80gb of HD content and another 20gb of music accessible on my PS3 without having to stream with TVersity or take up space on the internal hard drive. Also it allows me to defrag the drive, something that would be really nice of Sony to allow on the PS3's drive.

great..i have a dozen downloaded bootleg movies and porno that are in avi format i believe...gonna watch batman the dark knight on my ps3 then if it works. and will it upconvert my bootleg version into 1080p since my tv is 1080p?

Wow...seriously, a horrible cam version of Batman running on a 1080p tv would seriously be something very few people would actually sit through. Congrats if you can do it.

actually u be quite surprise how good some of those video quality for some of those bootleg...some are dvd quality like and others...u may guess it. will see tonite and take a screenshot if u want the quality on my ps3.

I've seen screen caps and it's horrible. But, to each their own. Plenty of sites keep track of releases and pics and reviews of the releases. Heck, watch it on your computer at higher than 1080p...it will look even worse!

so does any1 know if ps3 can play wma format? also i will transfer it from my usb memory stick...it is a sandisk 2 gb cruzer thumb drive. do i need need to create special folder heriachy in order for my ps3 to see it? i remember reading that my thumbdrive, i should create a folder call video for my video files and a folder call music for my music files. is it still true today or latest firmware, i dont need to worry about it anymore?

The "enable WMA" option in the XMB suggests that yes, it'll play WMAs.


And there's no way in hell a cam from a theater would be DVD quality. Maybe you got some early screeners or something and just think they're cams because the disc release isn't out. And yeah, why the hell are we talking about this stuff anyway?
