Hello everyone! I've been gone for a while, so I'm not very up to date on what DLP projector (or D-ILA) is "hot." I bought a Davis DL-S8 about a year ago from Alan here and have enjoyed it immensely. I've been waiting for a DLP projector with resolution enough to handle HDTV to come along, and was wondering if any of you guys have heard of any of the manufacturers bringing one out. I had heard that Texas Instruments was making a DMD that was the correct resolution for HDTV (one to one pixel ratio) just for that market, but have not heard much since.

Also have any of the "three DMD" projectors come down in price? They were pretty expensive around this time last year...

Thanks,

Boyd

Scroll through the first (or second or third or ...) screen of this forum. You should be able to answer that question pretty easily.

For quality, the Sharp 9000 just mentioned (soon to be available). Runner up is the new Yamaha (also not out yet). Other interesting machines are Sanyo PLV-60, Infocus 530.

For value, the NEC LT150 by a mile if you get it cheaply (was going for $1701 at Dell).

Falling out of favor but still liked are: Infocus 340 and 350, Seleco HT200, 250, Sony 10HT.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll see what info I can find on the Web on the Sharp projector.

Does the NEC LT150 look better than the Davis DL-S8? I have a friend who likes my old Davis DL-S8 and is looking for something comparable. Do any of the new Davis models compare to the LT150?

Thanks again,

Boyd

Boyd,

Davis (a Norwegian firm) has apparently dropped out of the projector business. Parts and service will be available for existing units, but there are apparently to be no new models.

Davis is gone? Wow. Their products were pretty darn good, so I'm really surprised they didn't do well enough to stay with it.

I still havn't found anything significantly better than the DL-S8 for HTPC use in its price range.

By the way, does anyone know where I can find some info on the new Sharp projector? I visited sharpelectronics.com and didn't find the 9000 anywhere on the site.

I'll go visit NEC and take a gander at the LT150 specs, since that seems to be a projector with a lot of posts lately...

Thanks again,

Boyd

Mark & Boyd:

I'd be careful about 'fessing up to your heat problem in public. You and the rest of your hot, noisy ilk might be blamed for global warming! http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
