Title says it all really... what DVD software/audio card combo will pass Dolby Digital (and preferably DTS) through S/PDIF on Windows 2000/Windows XP (preferably XP)?

thanks,

The TheaterTek player passes DD and DTS under Win2k SP2 and XP using the majority of available sound cards including, but not limited to, SBLive, SB Audigy, M-Audio 2496, Hercules Game Theater XP, Hercules Fortissimo II.

Chivs,

Do you know if it (TT player) is compatible with Echo Audio Mia card spidf output? Would you like me to test it? ;)

Thanks,

WinDVD 3.0 and PowerDVD 4.0 both works very well under W2K and SPDIF works for me. Using M-Audio DeltaDio and SB Live cards.

Cinemaster 4 player had SPDIF working when playing from DVD but not working with VOB files (ripped DVD).

As TheaterTek player cannot play VOB files anyway this may be a non-issue.

Chivs,

I asked this question in the huge thread on TheaterTek, but it got lost in the shuffle. Can TheaterTek do DD/DTS passthrough on the original SBLive card in W2K? Apparently there are some differences in SBLive cards with respect to passthrough.

Chris,

I honestly don't know. I've tested several cards across a range of OS's, but to test every card from the last n years on all OS's is just about impossible. The original SBLive (not value) works if that helps.

The SBLive series is most definitely supported, and I see no reason why an old card would not work with appropriate drivers for the given OS.

Dave,

I don't know anything about this card. The s/w supports the SBLive waveout format which is used by a large number of card manufacturers. In additon, the Aureal cards are supprted together with some other legacy cards. The Crystal chipset falls under the SBLive category, as does the M-Audio series and Hercules series.

At this time there is no more testing as the s/w ships in a few days. I can't speak for Immersive, but I understand there will be some provision for people who purchase the software and find it incompatible with their hardware.

That sounds promising, since that's what I've got. I'm on the pre-order list, so I should know shortly.

Thanks, Chris

For the Fortissimo II card, does the above statement mean that it WILL NOT pass DD and DTS on Win98SE and WinME?

thx
