Hello,

Im heading for a screen for my benq6100 but Im not sure wich gain is good for a DLP projector. Is there a big difference between 1,0 1,2 1,4 and 2,0?

the 2,0 is mutch more expansive so Im not sure If its worth it.

thanks if you can stop by and drop a few lines.

fiLa,

With the BenQ 6100 rated at 1500 lumens, and at the given screen size - you'd be

putting about 46.5 ft-lamberts of illumination on the screen.

Even if the 1500 lumens is "generous" - or you have it calibrated so that its intensity

falls to 1000 lumens - that would still put you at about 31 ft-lamberts.

That's bright enough - so you don't need any gain from the screen.

In fact, you could afford to sacrifice a little of the brightness to improve contrast by

going with a low gain "gray" screen - like a Stewart Grayhawk.

You could also go with the higher gain Firehawk.

1000 lumens in generous even...think more along the lines of 700 or so and then a 40-50% drop in light output as the bulb ages. Go with a 1.3 gain material like Dalite Cinemavision or a 2.0 gain like Draper 2500. Both will do better with the reflections you are going to get from the white walls. I would not recommend the Grayhawk...the firehawk, yes. The screen will cost more than the Projector if you go with the Stewart screen though.

You could also do a manual pulldown with Dalite high power for a brighter picture. That screen would work best if the projector is table mounted. You will get all of the gain that way.

Another option for a very bright picture at that size is a Vutec Silverstar. That has a gain of 6 and your screen would look similar to plasma brightness. Again, you would spend more on the screen that projector going with this option.
