Has Marantz completly stopped making Surround receivers ( not the slim kind! ) in the 500-700 dollar price range ?

I would love to replace my SR 4600 with a newer model but the only one they have are the much more expensive SR5005 and up...

Maybe we will see something at CES?

I have looked at other options like Denon but none of them have 7.1 in and I need that.

Have you looked on accessories4less? They sell refurbished Marantz. You could pick up a 7.1 receiver for less than your price range. I bought my SR6003 refurbished while it was still the current model for $300 under MSRP.

Just saw they have 1 SR5005 left for under $600, refurbished.
Do you mean the Marantz SR5004? There is no SR4005.

And why do you require 7.1 channel analog input? Using the multichannel analog input will preclude you from using many of the digital features of the AVR.

"There is no SR4005."

I think that is his point for the thread.
They used to offer a 4XXX series and now they dont. Replaced by the Slim line I guess.

Apparently he has components that use analog and not HDMI.

In that case, the OP chose a poor thread title. Nothing "happened to the Marantz SR4005" because it does not exist.

Name a component that requires a 7.1 channel analog input. An analog only BD player?

Ok thanks. I need the analog input because I use a Stereo Amp to drive my main speakers.

Apparently AVR's.

Many people still use analog. Why replace everything just cause digital cables are now the norm? SACD players, high end Bluray players are known to have excellent analog sections, high end CD players, etc... I dont know what your getting at, trying to say there is no need for analog? Like I said, many people dont want to replace thousands of dollars worth of equipment just to use a new cable. What about the people that have a mix of older high quality analog equipment and some newer HDMI capable equipment. They would greatly benefit from a newer AVR with both. Seems like thats just what the OP wants. (nevermind anyways, OP is quite confused. as can easily happen with tech.)

No, you are confused. You need a 7.1 channel pre out, not a 7.1 channel input.

So do you need an INPUT or OUTPUT (preout)??

edit: Wavelength beat me to it...

Well, this now seems a moot point, as the OP needs a pre out, not a multichannel input. Nevertheless, hanging on to legacy components w/ multichannel analog connection defeats much of the purpose of updating to a new AVR, since the AVR will be unable to apply Audyssey, bass management, etc. Does that make sense?

Yes, moot point. And I agree, I'd prefer digital, but I understand why some wouldn't. There are some $$$ high end pieces of analog equipment laying around.
Sorry output! but in the 6-700 range which receiver has a 7.1 output.

If you shop around online or, better yet, call authorized dealers, you can find the SR5005 at a street price w/in your range.

AJ
Unfortunately, preouts aren't as common at this price point. The quickest/easiest way to tell is to go to the manufacturers website and check out the pictures of the back of the unit.

That said, the 5005 may offer everything you want, but I do know the Pioneer 1120 has preouts for an external amp(s). It can be had for a nice price at Amazon.
